Panic Symptoms

When I get stressed, overwhelmed, panicked, think to much, or worry I start to feel physically drained. It gets very hard to breath (almost like a swollen dryness in my throat), i get lightheaded/dizzy, very hot in mainly my face, and my heart feels like it's going to explode out of my chest. I also have asthma and Post concussion syndrome so these symptoms feel much worse than if i didn't have things thing on top of the panicking.

Are these symptoms common to anyone. Has anyone found anything that helps helps relieve or calm down. It has been on and off for 4 days and I am so over it.

Thank you.

Hello,

I'm so sorry that you are having these symptoms. Anxiety presents itself in different ways but your symptoms sound very similar to when I start to have a panic attack. I have found a few strategies, usually ones that can distract my mind. I look around and count all the blue thing then the red things I can see. You can also do a centering exercise where you find things you can see, feel, touch, smell, and hear and list a few of each to your self. I know breathing exercises help some people but i usually have too much of a monkey mind to be able to find this helpful at first. Although, breathing into a paper bag does help me. The rhythmic sound of the crunching bag is calming to me. Also making a list of what you are worried about and ranking it. Then figuring out if it's something you can control or not. If it is, then making a simple plan to address it. And also, just being kind to yourself knowing that these are hard times and that you are not broken for feeling the way you do.

Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

When I get to feeling overly stressed and am feeling over-whelmed, I self-medicate with L-tryptophan, a supplement found in the vitamin aisle at you local CVS.

Apparently L-tryptophan is a precursor to the ‘feel good’ neurochemical serotonin. While it doesn’t totally erase the stress, it definitely makes it more manageable.

It makes a difference for me, so I just thought I’d share.

Hello,

I hope that you are feeling better today! There are many things and ways to help with anxiety and stress. One of might favorite ways of dealing with anxiety and stress is to Pray and I open the Bible up to the book of Psalms and just read it Psalms is full of poetry and people who are dealing with their own anxiety and stress and tells how they come before the Lord asking for help. Knowing that they had the same stresses and anxiety that I am dealing with gives me comfort. If I am not able to read the Psalms in the Bible, I play some light contemporary Christian music (just the music- no words) and I try to bask in the calm of the music along with a cup of tea. I hope this helps you. Know that I am praying for you!
