Depression is something that many people have. Most commonly the partner of anxiety. It can come in many forms and strengths. I have never had a definite diagnosis and would love one for peace of mind. But would that really help...who knows. I wish you the best of luck. If you have to question whether or not you have depression there is a good chance you might. Do not let that define you, you are not the depression, it is just a flake of you.

100% true, the only reason I want to know for sure if I have it or not is to treat myself fairly. Thinking that what I'm going through will pass and trying to ignore the fact that I'm in a bad place will not help, if I know I have depression I'll tolerate what's going on more than now that I'm not sure if I have it or not. The prusser of blaming everything on the circumstances will go away.
Getting a diagnosis saying you have x and y may not be as helpful as you think. You will have a label attached to you. Psychiatrists like this so they can prescribe drugs to treat what they think are biological chemical imbalances in your brain; just like if you have diabetes you need insulin. I don’t believe this is true in most cases.
What I tell myself is that I have problems with anxiety. The different aspects of it are called different things, with me it has features of the labels GAD, OCD, phobia, but it all comes down to anxiety.
It is pretty easy to figure out if you are depressed or not.
Google the ‘Dr Burns depression questionnaire or inventory.’ It is a quick check sheet that lets you know if you are depressed and how severe your depression is. He has the same thing for anxiety. His ‘Feeling Good’ book is a good resource.
