Scared to Recover from Anxiety

Hi everyone!

I’ve been in therapy for a couple of months now and I’m seeing improvements in myself regarding to anxiety. Although I am happy I think I am recovering, I am almost scared to be recovered from anxiety. I think I have had a variation of anxiety my whole life and I’m scared I will change from no longer suffering from anxiety 24/7. To anyone who has recovered, is this normal? Does this feeling go away?

seb1elb2, I never was scared but rather always believed that I would recover. And when

I finally saw the light of day once again, it was an amazing feeling. The feeling of power and

control of one's life is nothing that can compare.

However, what you are feeling is absolutely normal as well. We can get very comfortable

with a pattern in our lives of both good and bad. As we learn to live each day in fear, it becomes an expected way of life. The fact that it doesn't have to be like that forever can

be unsettling. Anything that's new takes a while to adjust to. But believe in that it is for

the best. The inner peace that you will feel inside is something that will get better and

more comfortable in time. You're on your way. My best to you :) xx

I completely relate to what you are saying. Even tough it was a horrible place to be in, it was something you were familiar with and almost felt comfortable in. This new place of freedom, though it feels great is also a bit scary. Just trust in yourself and believe you are free. You will get used to the new you and life that is so much better!!! Be proud of yourself... I sure am!!! HUGS!

Hi! 👋

Yes this feeling is very normal. During my EMDR treatment for trauma, PTSD, and agoraphobia, I had this same feeling. My therapist said it’s because you get comfortable. You’ve felt this way your entire life, then it’s like...now what? You also have this anxiety feeling to fall back on if need be. But as it’s lifting and going away, it starts a “new anxiety” that it will be gone. Even though this anxiety has caused so much heartache and multiple other severe symptoms, you still can’t help how you’ve learned to cope WITH the anxiety and now it will all be different.

So don’t freight, a completely normal reaction. 💕💕

seb1elb2 I am glad that you are recovering from anxiety. that's awesome. I am too slowly but surely. because we have anxiety we tend to overthink or even worry and stress about things that are good things not necessarily bad. I try to refocus my mind on what is "here and now" the immediate moment. redirecting those thoughts/energies into positive productive thoughts/energies. it is important what a person believes in. it really does matter for what we think becomes reality. I encourage you to continue to believe in yourself. :)
