Hi
hi being open about it and accepting it goes a long way to helping us.good support around you helps as well.
Seeking help from your doctor is the starting point. Often the first step of making an appointment for this purpose is most difficult. Accepted treatment is talking therapy with a skilled mental health professional with or without medication. Depression is then more manageable with knowledge about your condition and learning what you can do to to self manage your feelings and symptoms. Finding a couple of key support people is important too. Using the online experts here (people with a lived experience and health professionals) is a luxury sufferers didn't have previously. We are always available for advice which is no substitute for a medical treatment plan. Please be aware that additional stress from Covid19 virus can make your mental health worse. It is worthwhile following up on the various types of community help lines dedicated to C-19. 🐱
I agree with Blackcat, I have battled depression since a child, it is awful. I depend on antidepressants and anti anxiety med's. I found therapy to be very helpful, I need someone to lean on, family and friends do not understand, it is an illness, and thank goodness the Dr's are getting a better understanding. So do not give up on yourself, try to stay busy with fun things to do that occupy your hands and your mind. Read up lifting books, do not watch the news or read the paper. I think of it as "It is what it is", and it will end, the virus, so do not let that bring you down, and take care of yourself when venturing out. Write to us here, we offer support, love and virtual hugs.......Sprinkle 1....
When I first experienced it in high school, I had no idea how to deal with it. Back then, I'd share if I was able to find a trustworthy friend. I'd cry to release my emotions, listen to encouraging music and I'd pray so my heart can be heard. Now-a-days, I still do the same things but I now seek for humor to brighten my day. I've learned that depression can be a trigger due to something unsettled from your past, it can be something more current that may be subconsciously bothering you or it can just be a reaction due to your psychological/physical well being. Because we don't typically know what caused it, sometimes discovering the source can help us deal with it. I hope you find a solution that works for you.
I would say one good way is doing what you have done... let people know you are dealing with it and ask for help. Depression wants you to stay in solitary... the way to break it is to let people in. You can do it... Praying and sending big hugs!!!
