Another day in gehenna. (Take my advice and do not seek lest ye find.)
I tried a new prescription this morning. The lorazepam (0.5 mg.) I was taking for EXTREME panic just wasn't making it anymore. Takes an hour to have an effect, barely does anything, and stops working - at all - two - two and a half hours after I take it. I do not want to start down that road - you know the one - increase here, increase there, and then the largest dose they'll give you DOESN'T WORK AT ALL and you go a week without sleep. And withdrawal hell! So I asked for a different med, instead of the increase the doc was recommending.
What was I saying? Oh, ya. Clonazepam, 0.25 mg. (split a 0.5 in half). Took it for the first time this morning. Nothing. Then two hours later, the room swims around if I move. Four hours later I am not able to hold my head up, I have bad chills, and I feel as though I went ten rounds. Is it me (I am sensitive to drugs), or is this normal at first? Any comments or advice based on your experiences would be appreciated.
Oh, and the miserable thing your heart does when you're panicking. That's no better. Sigh.
Oh and one last thing. How long is safe on this stuff? The internet says you should only be on Benzos a month or two, but my doctor had me on the stuff for years. This one may even be stronger.
And one last last really last thing. This stress is not making my anxiety better.

Your Dr just put you on a different benzo.sounds like benzo withdrawal.clonazapam is a generic Xanax and Lorazepam is generic for Ativan.YOU CAN'T JUST Stop taking these meds.talk to your Dr about slowly detoxing from them.Is he a psychiatrist ?I would find a different dr.any Dr that gives benzos out for years is DOING the wrong thing.Ask for something that is not addicting.i take VISTERAL for my anxiety.BUT again DON'T stop taking the benzos it's dangerous.try a detox in patient program.call local health Dept for a referral.Good Luck
I don't know what you're talking about. I have not stopped taking anything, unless you mean that I switched from lorazepam to clonazepam. Are you saying I have to slowly go down from the one before switching to the other? Why didn't the psychiatrist (or the pharmacist) pick up on this?
Ya, I think a lot of people are put on these addictive drugs for years. I agree that's scary. Until recent trauma, I only took one or two pills a month, if that. But when everything hits the fan, you do as needs must.
(By the way clonazepam is generic for klonopin. Thought you'd like to know.)
In your first post you make it sound like you know nothing about the meds you are taking.i was only trying to give you advice about the horrors of getting a habit on these drugs.
Next time post more exact information about your situation.be well
I’m down to my last few doses of Clonazepam and I’m switching over to lorazepam now actually. I noticed on the Clonazepam that I had adjustment symptoms for 2-3 days before it went away. I was off balance and very sleepy at first. But I quickly built up a tolerance to the Clonazepam my anxiety was overpowering the drug hence why I’m switching over. But symptoms do go away after adjustment. If it’s too much talk to ur doctor it’s the strongest anti anxiety med and it’s addictive. It’s stronger than Xanax.
Yes I switched over without the withdrawal phase but it isn’t uncommon for doctors to do so because of how addictive it is when I tell you that it’s dangerously addictive it’s bad people have had seizures from going cold turkey. They usually put you on a different drug of the same class to counteract the withdrawal of the previous one. You may still feel withdrawal but not as bad. Everyone’s body is different so it really depends on how you react. If you think you need the withdrawal phase discuss that with your doctor.
Oh, I've probably seen episodes of The Outer Limits in syndication when I was a boy, just as I did The Twilight Zone, but my anthology-type television programs of choice were always Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.
Tell me you saw - what was it - I think it was called "The Magic Shop" on Hitchcock. (Don't know if it was hour or presents.) Dad let me sit on the sofa and watch with him one night when I couldn't sleep. Nice one, Dad. Scared the hell out of me. Sort of recall it was based on an H.G. Wells story. Ya, I was a weird enough kid to notice the writing credits. No one but me seems to remember that episode.
The kid was the one who played (can't remember the character's name) Truman Capote in Mockingbird: Jem and Scout's weird next door neighbor. No, not Boo. Same kid was also in the Star Trek episode called Miri. The girl in the original True Grit (John Wayne!!!) was in there too.
Can't seem to connect to the newer Star Trek variations. Just don't get it. City was my all time favorite episode. How 'bout you? Enjoyed Sturgeon's Shore Leave too.
Syndication, huh? First-run rules.
So how come you never warned me I was playing around with a baby? I could get arrested for that, you know.
While we're on our SF B movies kick, tell me you saw A Boy And His Dog. Pretty weird, huh?
Yes, I have seen "The Magic Shop." It was on the Hour. It seemed so out of place on that show...seemed like it wandered off The Twilight Zone backlot, where that other little boy could make anything happen with his mind. Man, were those kids creepy.
I've watched some Star Trek, but not much. I'm not versed in science fiction at all, so, maybe you can educate me if you're ever so inclined? I only loved Quantum Leap for the schmaltzy friendship between Sam and Al (the only show next to Monk that regularly makes me cry).
By the by, I first saw my namesake TV show in syndication. I like arriving late to the party.
I did check out the trailer for A Boy And His Dog -- as the kids say, I laughed out loud.
Oh, I wouldn't want you to get arrested...how unjust! I'm just a little lamb who's lost in the wood, after all...
Coals to Newcastle. I learn something new from you almost daily.
But SF (not Sci-Fy, Lord help me) has been a life long passion. I don't consider Star Trek, in any of its incarnations, to be truly science fiction. Space opera, more like. But watch "City on the Edge of Forever" if you want to know how good Trek ever got. I do believe TV Guide polled its readers, and City showed up on the list of best TV shows ever. There was a decades long battle between the man who wrote the original script and Roddenberry, the producer. But that's neither here nor there.
Are you (no fooling) interested in me educating you? Movies? Short stories? Any chance in hell I can get you to read outside your oeuvre? So much to experience... But for movies. Maybe this can get you started:
Charlie (novelete: Flowers For Algernon) Stayed pretty close to the book, and Claire Bloom (Chaplin's paramour) was stunning.
A Clockwork Orange (Kubrick actually got the book and did a great job -- don't get me started on what he did to The Shining)
The Creature from the Black Lagoon (so sue me, I cried)
The Day of the Triffids
How's that for a start?
A Gershwin fan too? And what was it you said you found yourself lacking?
Oh, by the way, I never saw the trailer for A Boy and His Dog before. Boy are you right, what were they thinking? The film was an independent project and I loved it (mostly), with qualifications. Down-under didn't really work - over the top - and the sick final line that caused so much scandal was all the director's doing.
(Coals to Newcastle...never heard that expression before...had to look it up...I learn much from you, too!)
There might be an itsy bitsy teenie weenie spot in Hell where I might attempt to read a short work of fiction, but I wouldn't hold yer breath...I've already downloaded hundreds of books from that National Emergency Library, and once I figure out how my wife and I will survive the pandemic jobless and, at some point, homeless, then maybe I'll actually get around to reading some of them.
Films, on the other hand, I'd be more likely to indulge in with your guided expertise.
Still, I will seek out "City of the Edge of Forever," but I'll have to boldly go to one of those "free watch TV" sites. Yikes!
I have seen all the films on your list, except Charlie/Charly/CHAЯLY (now that you've recommended it, I will remedy this), and have even read A Clockwork Orange! Also, Creature from the Black Lagoon is one of my most beloved creature features! I wish we could watch it and cry together...hmmm...I have an idea regarding that...watch this space.
What I'm most interested in hearing is your knowledge and passion for science fiction; I want to know what you find interesting or thrilling about it. I am sincerely open to such an education.
Oh, I wouldn't say my familiarity with a given Gershwin song would designate me a fan, but, as another song lyric goes: "I like New York in June, how about you? / I like a Gershwin tune, how about you?"
And no, I'm not familiar with the creators of that tune either, though it was probably the best part of that Judy Garland/Mickey Rooney film, Babes on Broadway, in which it first appeared (which would have been an okay film if not for the cringe-worthy minstrelsy at the end)...as well as its use in another film which I love, The Fisher King.
When did I ever say I found myself lacking? Of course, what others find in me is a whole 'nother ball of wax...
As a testament to the dearth of my knowledge, I had to look up Pagliacci, though I had a suspicion you were referring to the film where Chaney plays a clown, which I haven't seen (but would like to one day).
i used lorazepan it did not work for me. now i am on alprazolam .25mg. the paper said you should not use it for a long time, however my. doctor keep telling me to use it as needed. i have problems sleeping and he said to take two tablets. try breathing exercises. i know what you are going though. I have been trying meds for over twelve years. GOd bless do some praying.
C'mon cricketbat, I know you're in the UK with a name like that. Take me on a virtual tour, whadda you say. Is cricket half as much fun as quidditch?
Trapped in a body that won't take me anywhere: I would love a virtual tour. Is the UK as lovely as it is in Doc Martin? As romantic as in The Quiet Man?
I need and appreciate all the prayers and blessings I can get. Right back at'cha.
I took temazepam and then clonazepam for around 15 years. They worked well for me, no reallty adverse effects except that they will eventually loose their therapuetic value as they build up in your body. I never had a problem abusing them or taking too much. A word of caution about Temazepam, any trips to Sweden planned, they are illegal in this country and will be confiscated at the airport. Also, I heard or read somewhere that the withdrawal from Temazepam can be fatal, one of the few pharmaceutical drugs in which this is the case.
