Xanax and increasing anxiety?

Has anyone experienced increased anxiety after a dose of xanax? It doesn't seem to help me at all. Does it take some time to start working like it's supposed to?

Emilyjem, Xanax is a fast working med which can help you to relax. It might be possible

that your mind doesn't like that feeling overcome you and you get more anxious. When

taking a benzo, you need to go with the flow, allowing it to work. xx

Xanax for most people calms down the effects of anxiety, however it can, in some, actually make it feel worse. Also if you take a "higher dosage" of xanax and then suddenly stop you can also feel more anxiety. I take xanax as needed. During times of higher anxiety I will take my full rx for a few days and wean off. Its very important to not just go cold turkey as you will feel pretty bad. I have learned this in the past. I sometimes only take .25 mg for a few days and go to zero. There is no complete miracle to managing anxiety-- we just found ways to to cope with it. It is not something that will be cured, but rather managed. I hope this helps.
