Feeling worse

I don’t know if it’s the lockdown in Ireland that’s preventing me from getting out and about but the past few weeks I have been really stressing over the small stuff that sets my anxiety into over drive

I’ve been staying away from the news and other things but that helps only a little bit

Hi Sharkie, Sorry to the stress from the C-virus is affecting your mental health. I have just returned from a session with my psychiatrist who has tried to explain how this happened to me. We experience an unconscious survival response to the danger from the virus. This is more powerful than your conscious brain can manage. You cannot control it. Once anxiety kicks into gear, there is no turning back and it will get progressively worse UNLESS you can find a counsellor who can help. In the meantime it is okay to be aware of this aspect of your life and check out some self help ideas that might decrease your anxiety. I love to relax in a hot bath, read a book and drink a nice wine. It's really what works for you. Keep safe & stay well 👌

I totally understand. I avoid the news at all costs, it really helps me. I've been trying to get out every day and be extra kind to me. I've been laid off and am moving (thank goodness locally), but my anxiety and depression levels have been super high as well. It's really a struggle now. I've heard often that stress makes mental health conditions worse, so I'm trying to keep this in mind and that it will get better. My anxiety/depression, etc. won't ever totally go away but I'm trying to remember that it will get easier, ebb and flow. Hang in there.
