I have been suffering from depression, anxiety for more than 4 years, was taking Escitalopram and Clonazepam 0.25(SOS).But now for more than two months i have been on Fluoxtine and Clonazepam-0.5(SOS).But i have been taking it regularly, twice a daily, as i always have head heaviness and difficulty breathing while studying (especially Statistics, Physics), pushing myself to clear a concept and thinking too much.Only clonazepam gives me relief from that. Now i can't eat much, can't think clearly, living like walking dead.

Please give me some suggestions on how to cope up with it, as taking clonazepam for that long is not recommended and i have to study, there is no way to escape that.

Medication alone is not the panacea for anxiety. I am 65 yrs old and have had anxiety disease and panic disorder since I was a young child.

I have had every physical manifestation of anxiety you can imagine so I know how frightening your symptoms feel.

When I was in graduate school and studying statistics I had such difficulty swallowing that I barely ate for two days! This symptom was relieved when I sat for my statistics final, thankfully.

CBT, DBT and relaxation techniques learned with an excellent behavioral therapist has given me control of this disease, and has helped me to live a full life.

I use all the tools in the box, including a small dose of Ativan when stressed.

I practice progressive muscle relaxation everyday and controlled breathing.

Find a good behavioral therapist.

Read and continually practice the teachings of Dr Claire Weekes (Essential Help or Your Nerves) or any other person who advocates the same principles of acceptance in overcoming anxiety.

Anxiety is not a disease. How can it be when it’s sole purpose is to protect human beings from danger. It’s the natural human fight or flight response that has not evolved since humans started walking this earth. It’s just got a bit trigger happy because sufferers become alarmed and bewildered at the symptoms it creates which frightens them even more, creating yet more feelings of panic and anxiety, the very feelings they are desparately trying to get rid of. The sufferer then becomes afraid of the feelings of fear, creating a cycle they then struggle to break. They have unwittingly been tricked into it.

When you learn to face those fears and accept that the symptoms you are experiencing are completely natural under the circumstances and harmless ( it’s just excessive adrenalin), they will disappear. When you no longer fear something, no matter what it is, it doesn’t bother you again.

I used to suffer from chronic anxiety all day, every day for a long time and was scared of my own shadow but recovered by following the teachings of Dr Weekes. I faced all my fears ( they were all figments of an anxious mind which created anxious thoughts which I thought were true but were all completely false), accepted all of the symptoms that came with anxiety, and carried on doing normal things, no matter how bad I felt. Over time, the symptoms faded away. You can do this too. Any one can when they know the way.
