Does anyone else have a strong dislike for all holidays in general? I have a hard time buying into any of them-even and especially my own birthday

Holidays?
Hi Lyn37, I blame the commercials that portray the holidays as being together
with family and friends. Everyone laughing and having a good time. Unfortunately,
it's not like that for so many people. The expectation is set too high. And so we end
up feeling more alone than ever. For those of us who have the "good ole days" memories,
we have to know it will never be like that again. However, we can and must change our
way of thinking, change our way in how we interpret the holidays. We have to find other
options on those special days in our lives. Our way of thinking must change to a more
positive approach than negative. That's including our birthdays. No one likes getting
older (except the young ones, who can't wait to be old enough not to have to listen to
anyone) (oh, are they in for a rude awakening) lol
When handed lemons, we make lemonade. We need to do this for ourselves.
Life is Good. We need to once again realize that. You're not alone in how you feel xx
I hate holidays too.
It helps to build new memories around them. For example, I threw my ex-husband out on Halloween. My daughter was pretty traumatized and only in elementary school. The next year, rather than trick or treating, she and I turned out all the lights, left a bowl of candy out on the door steps, and had a slumber party, just her and me.
Yep!.... if you anticipate what you want to happen, then you could be disapointed, and often that's the kind of negative we don't need. What I found is better is to make your own plans and roll with how ever things turn out....don't expect anything from anyone else, just do your own thing...whether your with other people or not.
