I have tried several antidepressant meds and almost all have have severe side effects. I was recently prescribed Wellbutrin for depression. I know I need something, it's getting bad. I also have severe anxiety and the side effects include anxiety so I am literally terrified to start them. they have sat on my counter for a over a week. Any feedback would be appreciated. Feeling very desperate.

I was also recently (6 weeks ago) put on Wellbutrin because of MDD and it hasn't helped as of yet. Admittedly, I'm on the lowest dose but it exacerbated my anxiety so I have been hesitant to increase it. However, everyone is different so I think you should see for yourself. In the past I have been on anafranil, paxil, cymbalta, seroquel, clonazepam, so I wanted to try something different. I'm sorry for any discouragement. Keep trying!

Sorry for your struggles, do not forget it takes at least 6 weeks for the brain the recognize the drug. I hope it works for you. Sending you courage, faith, peace, love and hugs.....Sprinkle 1.....

I was recently asked by my PCP if I would see a psychiatrist to deal with my depression and anxiety. I was having no problems but he was not inclined to write scripts for head meds. Apparently he did not wish to become involved in that region of the body. So my former PCP would still write them for me though I had to pay out-of-pocket for an office visit. And this was for Xanax. I've been on them for over 20 yrs. and they still work as good today as they first did. The shrink prescribed Wellbutrin first to be followed by more drugs as my case proceeded. It did not. I never went back. Took Wellbutrin for three days and, as many have noted, my anxiety went through the roof. I thought this stuff was supposed to help yet it made me want to check out of Life. Was not going to live like that, so I tossed the bottle in the trash and continue doing it my way. Like the actor Michael K. Williams said, "When the system fails you, you create your own system." My advice is toss that crap and ask for Xanax. In my professional opinion (professional loony) I'd ask for a low-dose short term script for Xanax. It's not a narcotic so any dr. can write a script for it. You've done the right thing by coming here to ask us. We've all been down a path similar to yours and have probably tried all the meds you've been given. Almost all cause unwanted weight gain as a side effect; not Xanax. I know Xanax is not an anti-depressant however it does ease your depression if you feel less stress and anxiety. My depression is always here, mostly kept under control with a variety of prescription drugs and herbal remedies. Anxiety can come and go but when I get that feeling I know I should take a pill now before it gets any higher, requiring more of my precious medication. But that's my story. I hope you can find some use of it. Take care, stay safe.

I take 200mg a day, anxiety is no better, no worse. Depression is slightly better. Been on it for almost 2 months. And that's why I have quit reading the side effects. It just planted seeds in my head and caused me more anxiety about whatever I had been prescribed. But I've taken tons of different medications over the years and with minimal side effects.

Thanks, I too have taken several meds through the years and it seems the older I get the more severe the side effects. Anxiety is my biggest fear as I am still recovering from a breakdown a little over a year ago. I agree about reading the side effects online but I am that terrified. I have a panic attack with just the memory of how I felt back then. I guess it just added one more trigger to my long list. I am gonna try to fight like hell, thanks so much for responding, it's always good medicine to not feel alone.

I stick with my previous post now more than ever. Xanax is great for general anxiety disorder with little to no side effects. At least for me. I personally feel that is one of the few medications for anxiety that actually work without exacerbating other issues.

I am on a low dose of klonopin, was put on it over 20 yrs ago, high dose 4mg per day. Drs aren't so loose with benzos like they once were. On .5 now and he wont go up even though i know it would help. But I'll ask about xanax, thanks.

Cannot offer much except to suggest that you could watch 12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson on Youtube. As you say the headology is complex.

I tried a low dose of Wellbutrin for less than a month last summer....Started having racing & suicidal thoughts....The medicine didn’t help me....I made the decision to stop taking the medicine cold turkey. Fortunately, I didn’t have any significant side effects.
