One thing I can tell you is that 85% of your worry about things that could happen will not happen. I have GAD as well and I find that being present in the moment rather than ruminating about what horrible thing could happen works for me. This is hard to do. It takes a lot of practice. When the worry thing enters your brain replace it with a different thought that is positive. Over time your brain will change and your worry-based anxiety will lessen. This is the heart of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Guided meditation helps as well as writing the worrying thought down on the left side of some paper, then finding reasons whatever it is will not happen and write them on the right hand side. This requires some rational, critical thought - I'm sure you can do it! Thanks for sharing friend.
Here is a something you might want to try. Close your eyes and imagine yourself sitting at the bottom of a pond. Each time a thought comes up, put it into a bubble and let it rise above you to the top of the pond. You might be surprised how much it helps.
Personally I've had it for at least three decades or more. At first Valium was the drug of choice, but I found it too strong. When Xanax became available I got on it and have stayed ever since. That is my drug of choice for anxiety. Works in about 15-30 minutes and calms you down without a zombie feeling.
