Hate coding

I am studying computer science, but I really hate it. I became indifferent to all classes, cause they annoy me. My parents put it that way that other things are not that progressive and I’m not gonna make any money. What do I do?

You tell them you are not happy and you want to rethink the career choice.

I told them several times, but they wouldn’t listen

That's sad. I think you need to do whatever makes you happy, not them.

Is there something else you would rather to? If so tell them this and insist you change. Are you in school or at Uni?

Since you are the one who will be searching for employment after completing your schooling then YOU are the one to make the decision of what it is you will be doing.

While we as parents can offer some guidance and advice, our children should ultimately follow THEIR dream and study what they want to pursue.

My son is in his 3rd year of college, studying physics and math.

My daughter will be pursuing dance - her plan is to become a choreographer and dance instructor.

These things were their decision.

Are you in high school? College?

Make a switch. You hate computer? Change your path. What is it that YOU want to do?

Sure, there is money to be made in a computer-oriented position. But there are plenty of other careers that pay well enough.

It’s not your Dad’s choice. It’s not your Mom’s choice. You’re the one who will be eventually getting the job. YOU need to be happy with your job.

They are right about the money. My fist husband was a multimillionaire doing that and never went to college. But you have to be happy too. As a nurse my job is my passion and you need to love your career so you never feel like you are "working". Follow your dreams. Money is not everything. The joyful moments never come from money.

Take some time and sit quietly and meditate and ask your soul what it is that you really want to do. Please don't continue with something that you hate in order to please your parents. Then slowly, one day at a time, follow your intuition towards what it is you really want to be doing. Talking with a career counselor is helpful as well. It's your life, your career. Set boundaries with your parents and tell them honestly how you feel and what you need. If they don't encourage or support you, find people who do. Life is too short to be stuck doing what you hate.
