Have just increased mirtizapine from 15,mgs to 30mgs and feel really unwell. I can't focus on anything and everything seems unreal like I am far away. I am begining to feel afraid now and don't know whether to go back to the lower dose or percevere with it. Can anyone help with this please?

Hi

I am on fluoxetine was on it for 17 days at 20m, my Doctor said if no better after 14 days up the dose to 40m, so four days ago I asked the prescription line if I should take 40m and I was told yes, like you I felt far worst had already gone through two weeks of hell, so this morning I contacted the Doctor and she has told me to go back to 20m for a further two weeks and I should start to feel better, I was very unsure about reducing the dose but was assured it would be fine.

I am annoyed because I was sleeping at night but since on this high dose it’s had a dreadful effect, hot sweats shaking and lots of other awful side effects again, so tomorrow I am reducing the dose, after being on 40m reducing back to 20m .

So if you feel worst than before I would go back to a lower dose.

Thanks for your reply. I really don't know what to do, as I'm not sure the 15mg really helped me, only as regards to sleeping. Doctor has tried me with so many but I always get bad side effects. She said I don't try them long enough but she doesn't have to cope with the awful side effects. Good luck with your meds. You might be better if you tried something else as you don't seem to be getting much help with the coverage. Good luck!

Hi ,

I was on 30 mg Mirtazapine for about 1 year. The 1st week i felt quite shaky and trembling. But after that 1st week I was fine. The only reason that the Doctor took me off them was because I kept getting up in the night because I was so hungry. Apparently that is one of the side effects of Mirtazapine.

When you take the Mirtazapine, you need to take it about half an hour before you go to bed.

Try it like that and if you still feel really unwell, then go to your G.P and tell them what's happening.

Don't go messing about with your medication or it could make you feel even worse.

Thanks for your reply. I have been on the 15mgs for awhile and they did help with sleep and my appetite but over the last couple of weeks they have not been so effective, thus going up to 30mg but I feel so bad and scared because I cannot think straight and feel like my brain is freezing up, if that makes sense, and so scared it will be worse tomorrow. Don't really know what to do. Take care!

How did you feel today after taking the 30mg Mirtazapine last night.

I'm not a Doctor, but I think that if you were okay, you could try another 30mg tonight. See how you go from there. Hope they work out okay for you because they are a good tablet.

Good Luck & Take Care. Gjkas.

It’s not a good idea to keep swopping the dose, if you felt ok on the stronger dose stick with it.

How long have you been taking it, you need to give it time.

I have reduced my dose as told by the Doctor, she assured me it would work.
