Getting Off Melatonin

Hi, all. So I'm trying to get off melatonin right now because I never actually had insomnia before I started taking it. Confession: the real reason I started taking it in college was because I thought I was Timothy Leary or something and wanted to trip on it. Now, however, I'm trying to get off of it so I can sleep naturally, but I am not sleeping very well, and I worry this might worsen my depression and/or anxiety if this lasts too long. Does anyone here know how long it takes for the body to adjust to getting off melatonin?

I honestly wasn't aware that anyone took melatonin to try to get high from it. I took 3 to 5 mg per night for about 15 years but when I stopped taking it I didn't wean off it or anything. My doctor just told me to stop. I had a couple of nights where it was difficult to sleep, but I took diphenhydramine (Benadryl) to help me rest.

You should taper off it , so reduce the dose gradually over a week or so and try not to worry if you get a few restless nights it will get worse before it gets better and if you want to sleep naturally resist taking anything else to help you sleep
