Depression and Anxiety = thoughts of suicide . Doesn't it ? Who here has never had a suicidal thought , or spoken to some degree of wanting to end our lives? It is an obvious part of our world, but ( and it's a big BUT ) we mostly manage to live with it, we know of it's existence the word could be stricken from the world and it
would still remain a possibility for us.I do not think we are so suggestable that merely reading the word or about another's action is going to drive us to ending it..If we were as suggestable as that then might I suggest recovery, or feeling good, pleasant, funny, heck yeah let's talk about generosity , peacefulness, β¦..
HealthUnlocked , you let us down just when we most need this forum .. I suspect it is about money in the end.. We are depressed, not stupid. Grateful to you, not ruled by you. This is an extraordinary place, it needs to be protected and to continue it's development into whatever it will be. Pam

I agree that reading about suicide does not trigger feelings of wanting to commit suicide
The word trigger certainly applies to anorexia which is very different to depression and anxiety, people who have anorexia often have a voice aka Ana bullying them and telling them they are fat and shouldn't eat it puts ideas into their heads that being like a skeleton is the ideal and the victim tries to achieve it and gets jealous of those that do reach a dangerously low body weight they are "triggered " by images of extreme thinness on social media to starve themselves even more to please Ana so there are grave consequences from such triggers
There are probably triggers involved with addiction and gambling
Maybe with cutting too which should never be allowed
But talking about suicide never "triggered" me , I have the Posy Simmonds graphic novel Cassandra Darke and she thinks about suicide it made me feel less ashamed of thinking of suicde myself when I read it check it out next time you go in a bookshop
I will do that and thank you for the response. It's hard to make a point in a small space. I could write a book on how people who have mental health issues are treated.
Thank you for making this post. Recently, I have noticed a few posts were deleted and I felt very sad because those people were getting support from the community. I wish they could feel free to post their true feelings.
It's hard enough to put yourself out there , without feeling you're being judged. Then there's the fact of feeling you're being punished if your thoughts are deleted. We also need to keep in mind that our feelings can be exaggerated when we're depressed or anxious.. It serves no one if we can't be honest.. I appreciate your reply.
I just read this post and also think it's very sad that some posts have been deleted by admin. There are times I have thought about suicide but I also think it needs to be brought up to make people more aware and that the person with those feelings doesn't need to feel judged. The stigma around mental illness is still very much out there and suicide is one aspect of it.

We may consider the word, although in most cases we seem to use the word as a habit, we use it so loosely, they say a trigger warning , triggers generally need a positive application to work.
It can be useful to know if the use of a phrase, will be used as a general call for help.
I used to use the word quite regular until I did try now I know those around me consider I needed to be noticed as I went through a very bad time. Now trigger warning used by me are never used. Life is there to live and love,
I totally agree! Health Unlocked has to understand that the subject matter in this Forum should not be "sugar-coated"at all. It only would take away the very "importance" of the writer's need for help here. That's an ongoing problem in society today,. Starting with our families who never teach us that it's okay to face the ugly, to embrace and deal with the "Bad" that life ALSO brings. Instead, we are taught that we are to "avoid" the inconvenient, the "hard to talk about"or face. Tell us the whole truth, prepare and teach our children, or adolescents about how important it is to Face and Deal with the "Uglies" or the metaphoric "Bullies" of Life that was "Taboo" to speak of,.For the same reasons why the mention of "suicide" may be quickly removed from an open Forum, supposedly created to "openly" discuss one of the major "Taboos" that has come a very, very long way from "suffering in silence" to open Forums or Platforms like this one. Let's not backpeddle now,. No more sugar-coating the inconvenient realities of Life.
Me, I am Pam to potential friends and Sweetiepye to people I like. Some people call me grandma, others call me Mother, some don't call me, and there are those who call me crazy.Just don't call me late for dinner.
