Been struggling with MDD & anxiety for the past three years. Been doing good most the time with just antidepressants.
When I was diagnosed I joined NAMI and attended Peer education class. It was very helpful in the beginning especially when the class was over, about 75% of us started a support group.
A year later I was trained as a facilitator for that Peer Informational class. It is great being able to take what I have experienced and learned and help others with discovering the path to a more holistic approach to recovery.
Last year, I was invited to be trained and certified as a NAMI Connections Facilitator. NAMI Connections is a support group for all mental illnesses.
Our group has grown ever since, and we are training new facilitators to expand into other areas of the High Desert.
Personally, I have grown very much from this support group. I have learned many coping skills that help with my depression, which greatly helps the medication.
