I hate job hunting

Do not ever take job advice from me!! I have completed/submitted 7 job apps in the last month and gotten 4 rejections, 3 w/o interviews. I hate job hunting because I am older, overqualified, etc. My brain tells me that I just wasn’t what they were looking for but everything else tells me I’m not what anybody is looking for! I have self esteem issues as it is and this compounds the feelings of worthlessness!!

There's nothing worse for anyone's self-esteem than job hunting. It's very demoralizing for anyone, with or without depression! Rejection of any type is always hard to take. Try not to take it personally - it's no fun for anybody.

I am job hunting as well. I am currently employed but I agree the process can be mind blowing. Interviews and phone calls. It is nothing personal. They need to find the right match and so do. It is nice to be asked but of course it can take time to find the right employer. I just wish they would stop with this automated email rejections after the interview. It is so impersonal.

Tell me about it! I never had a problem getting a job when I lived in London 30 years ago, but when I moved to a new area 23 years ago, I found it hell. There are very few jobs where I live and because it's by the sea most of them are unskilled blue collar jobs, or ones like cheffing. I do admin work and they are virtually impossible to find. Thank goodness I am now retired and don't have to jump through all these hoops as it is so demoralising! I remember going for one job - part time minimum wage and the interviewer told me he had 300 applicants - and this was before the recession years ago.

You will get there eventually if you persevere so good luck. x

If i were you id go to college and get into work that way, enjoy your life cuz your worth it and can do anything you set your mind to! in the uk theres loads to choose from. You can even go part time and still get benefits. I wish you well and try and get into something you love although I understand that you may not love everything about any training you do but it will be so worth it so you can have a quality life. Theres so many micky mouse degrees people are slogging there guts, passing and still not getting a job but you can do access courses to work and who knows what doors will open, follow your dreams, theres a good book called "The alchemist" it may broaden your scope and you may find it useful, i wish you well, your trying and willing to get a job so happy hunting to you and all the very best!

That sounds so frustrating! What job are you trying to get? Are you looking for progression?

My liberal arts degrees are a waste of paper at this point. I am contemplating a technical college degree to obtain a skill- seems to be the direction of work force.
