Morning anxiety

Hi ... anyone feel that their anxiety is at its peak first thing in the morning? My evenings are usually pretty good, I sleep pretty well, then ‘bam’...anxiety while I am drinking my coffee....and it is decaf. I am not on any medications. I have had this anxiety for over a year mainly based on guilty feelings I have over some suffering I caused a sibling (emotional suffering not physical). Long story...but I also suffered trauma. Meds tend to make me worse.

Yes, I have felt this way. There are times when I am waking up every morning feeling nauseous and uneasy, and it lasts for a good part of the day. I actually have stopped drinking coffee or consuming anything with caffeine in it--even decaf--and I think it's been helping keep my anxiety levels at a minimum. Decaf coffee actually still contains some caffeine, maybe 7 mg per 8-ounce cup, just FYI. Maybe you could stop drinking it for a week or so and see how you feel? I've also heard that chicory coffee contains no caffeine, so it might be a nice alternative if eliminating caffeine helps you. I also do not take any medications, by the way.

Exactly what I’m feeling... I’m nervous and anxious but feeling like I want to go back to sleep. I haven’t even gotten up yet. =\

I too have morning anxiety that can last 'til mid-afternoon. Am on meds that may or may not be helping. I drink caffeine in the morning because of depression/fatigue... it's the only thing that actually helps slowly remove the lethargy. In evenings I feel pretty normal. It makes going to bed anxiety-producing in and of itself, knowing what's coming the next morning.

Oh boy...you sound like me also...though I now cannot have caffeine at all! Going to bed is very anxiety producing ... many times I cannot sleep and then when I do and I get up the next day, the anxiety starts all over again. It’s an awful way to live. May I ask what medication you take?

At night: doxepin, ibuprofen, melatonin, klonapin (1 mg)

Getting up: klonapin (1 mg), propranalol (20 mg?), Viibryd (60 mg)
