An intriguing idea, Purpleblackdawg8...how would it work exactly? How would we all be able to watch the same movie? I don't have access to a streaming service like Netflix or Hulu, but I'm interested to hear more about the idea. It could be a great way for members to socialize and get to know one another.

I can try. My schedule is weird based on my energy levels. Right now I'm binge watching The Leftovers. That one makes me feel closer to the spiritual realm somehow. It's an HBO three-season series that I've been streaming. Five stars!

I know this is a three-year old proposal, but after the pandemic popularity of Zoom, it would seem to be even more viable now, as I know that Zoom allows for both screen-sharing and anonymity. Just wondering if anyone was still interested in the idea?

Yeah, that was one of the things I was wondering about the idea -- would we be discussing the movie afterwards in text chat, or just getting together with everybody with giant bowl of virtual popcorn?

So a shared movie first then conversation afterwards. In the post, you were wondering about the logistics to watch a movie together. I’m assuming you worked that out. I don’t know how. And you mentioned texting. Would that not include zoom? I’m sorry if I’m confusing things, I guess I’m confused. There will be others possibly interested in your idea so I’ll see what I can learn as this unfolds. I’m in if I can figure it out. 😁

Yes, I think so. The idea was floated a few years ago and at the time, I wasn't sure exactly how it would work. I only learned about Zoom during the height of the pandemic, and I have a limited understanding of it, but I think it would be possible for a member to create a Zoom meeting that folks could join anonymously (and without using webcams or microphones), where the hosting member could play a movie using any media player software, then share that screen showing the movie (and its audio) with the meeting participants.

The text chat feature is a part of Zoom, yes, so if we wanted to discuss the film afterward, it could be done right there on the spot.

Since Zoom is a free application and pretty easy to install, it's certainly feasible, The challenges would be determining what movie to watch first and when to watch it, as members would be coming from various time zones around the world and keeping varying schedules. Maybe those who are interested could have a group chat on HealthUnlocked to brainstorm?
