Coping and Stopping Panic attacks

How do you control your anxiety and stop panic attacks? I get really bad attacks and can not stop them for at least a day. Severe attacks. I sometimes have to go to the ER cause I can't stop them.

Hey Ashley. I want to suggest that you reframe what you're asking for. You don't 'stop' a panic attack - it runs its course. The work is to learn how to not ADD to it so that it can fade out. If you don't know about Dr. Claire Weekes, look up her books or audiobooks. She talks about this a lot and taught me most of what I know on this exact subject. Hang in there!

I have to agree with JAYnLA that you have to let it run its course. When I have my anxiety attacks I try to focus my attention on something calming. I usually will take a bath with essential oils and listen to music. Allowing myself to focus on something else is helpful. Wish you the best.

I have to agree with these other posts, since I’ve started zen meditation and sat with my anxiety, it’s helped to just let it run its course and observe. Panic attacks are terrifying though. I’ve only fainted once

Another thing which could help is to learn some breathing exercises and there are lots online. When you have panic attacks you hyperventilate so you have more carbon dioxide in your bloodstream which adds to the panic. Learning breathing exercises will stop this and help calm you down a bit. x
