Recently I've been dealing with a lot of mixed emotions about my financial situation. I've accumulated a lot of debt (mostly student loans and some credit card) over the last few years, mainly from trying to pay for school. The credit card debt is what's gotten me worried. I've racked up about $7000 worth in credit card debt. I transferred it to a new card that doesn't accumulate interest until July, but each month the total balance doesn't seem to get much lower. I'm not able to save because of this and this makes me really anxious. I feel guilty that I've allowed this to happen. I've watched my spending, created a budget for myself, but things keep coming up that I don't anticipate and I always feel like I can't get ahead. Does anyone have any suggestions for me, both with mentally dealing with this and financially?

go to a debt management office/department near you.take letters from all your creditors they will contact all of them on your behalf and come up with an affordable payment plan.
Dave Ramsey. He’s on Sirius radio. He has every golden nugget of truth that will save you from being “normal” aka broke and in debt. Start with $1,000 emergency savings. Everything else you chuck at the debt. It feels so good to see that number go down, down, down. You CAN do this. Some people owe hundreds of thousands of dollars. Perform a little plastic surgery on those credit cards. Every single one. I do not have a credit card. I do not have debt. I worked very hard for years to pay off my student loans and my truck. I’ll never be in debt again. Dave Ramsey has a 9 week class (once a week you meet at a local church with a group of awesome people just like you) called Financial Peace University. It teaches you to get out of debt, invest in mutual funds, become a millionaire and start giving and giving and being generous and improving your world and everyone else’s. You can’t help anyone when you’re broke. Start chipping away and you won’t believe the momentum that happens. Start with the smallest debt. Knock that sucker out. Do not step foot in a restaurant or buy a new car. The only thing I did that veered from Dave’s plan was we bought a house while I still had debt. Then I paid off my loans. If you can get into real estate, do try to own your own home, that’s my advice. Getting rid of debt will help you get there. You’re on your way!! Dave will really motivate you and his callers will open your eyes to all the possibilities, good and bad, that are offered out there. The credit card companies are marketing geniuses! Movie stars hocking credit cards?!? You think multi millionaires use credit cards?? Choose conscious action. He has an every dollar budgeting program, it’s free. Every dollar has a place to go. And it’s not down the drain. Dig deep, be diligent, and then feel the freedom for the rest of your life!!
hello there - can i recommend that you consolidate all your debt - then get rid of your credit cards - then ask the bank to debit your account after consolidation - then you will be able to live off what you have left - by which time you get used to living within a fixed budget and further not be able to spend what you dont have - just a thought
