I am my mind.
Never seen any part of my consciousness or subconsciousness as something separate. If I train my logic and memory I get smarter. If I run I get healthier thoughts thanks to extra oxygen. If I need information I can either try to force my memory or just let it scan all my memories randomly until it stumbles to the thing I want. I dream dreams that structure or relieve things I feel or saw during the day.
Don't quiet your mind, but apply your mind where you need to. don't think that some chemicals in your brain is gonna change "you". You can notice bad mood or thoughts, but better work on structuring your thoughts instead of fighting them.
Bad thoughts, for example are good if they come to you when you need them. For example you need destructive bad thoughts when someone is attacking you, not then you are chilling. Brain simply is clueless, you have not installed the control mechanism for the good and bad for appropriate moments.
