Seriously Struggling with Anxiety and Insomnia

Can anyone share their experience with anxiety and insomnia. I can go all night with a rapid heartbeat and never get to sleep. I have suffered for years with this off and on and though I am on medication, seeing a therapist, trying to get my life back in order (dysfunctional marriage, stressful job, etc.) I just can't seem to lick this insomnia. I try to go to bed at the same time, limit alcohol, listen to deep sleep music in a dim room, etc. I still get horric panic and am up all night. I feel like a huge burden to my family and friends. Help!

I can relate to your sleeplessness it is awful. My psychiatrist put me on Zyprexa 5 mg. I sleep like the proverbial log, it is solid sleep, with no bad dreams. Ask your Dr. if it would be suitable for you. I send you my best wishes, for peace and sound sleep. Sprinkle 1........

Thanks Sprinkle1. I was given something else, but it didn't work all that well. I'll mention Zyprexa, but I think its in the benzo family and I don't want to go there again. I really appreciate your help...

Thanks Elliot: Yeah, I took one of those the other day and turned into a calm insomniac vs an anxious one. Do you have someone that you talk to about this other than your doctor? I talk to a therapist and psychiatrist, but I can't see them that often. I feel like a broken record with my family and friends. Its so easy to feel alone in this...

It is not in the benzo list, my psychiatrist will have nothing to do with them. I trust my Dr. so talk it over with your Dr. Good Luck. Sprinkle 1.........

Hi there! I have definitely experienced insomnia due to anxiety much like you’re describing. For me, melatonin (all natural) works really well for a restful sleep. I also LOVE the Calm App and highly suggest it. In addition to daily meditations they also have sleep stories which really help me focus on whatever lovely story is being told versus a million thoughts and get to sleep. I also read and pray before bed in hopes that it will signal my body it’s time to rest! Hope you find some relief 💜
