Feeling hopeless and worthless

Hello all

I have toyed with killing myself several times in my life. The first time was when I was in sixth grade. I’ve been on many different antidepressants for thirty years. I wish I was dead. Is there any hope?

Yes there is hope. I have suffered from depression, panic disorder and anxiety since I was a child as well, although I never said a word to anyone, just dealt with it in silence. As an adult I was then diagnosed with the depression, anxiety, panic disorder, PTSD, and ADD. I am not saying that I still don't have bad days, I have plenty of them but I do find that when I have a good day, I appreciate them so much more. I try to keep myself busy as best as I can. That way I don't sit around thinking the negative thoughts. Living alone that can be hard. I find the weekends and vacation weeks the hardest. Today may seem like it was hopeless but tomorrow will be a new day and maybe it will be a happy day for you.

There is always hope so long as you don’t give up. I’ve suffered from major depression, generalized anxiety disorder and adhd my entire life even though I was diagnosed with some of it as an adult. I may not have as many issues as other people on the site or been through anything as traumatic but I believe what I said is true.

I believe it all begins with a conscious decision that you don’t just want to be better but that you will actively try to improve. I’ve been on nearly every antidepressant that I know exists outside of MAOI’s and I finally found one that works well enough to help without causing more problems than it’s worth.

But that isn’t enough on its own and I believe the same is true for nearly everybody. You have to begin making positive life changes, find a way to work through some of your problems and work on changing how you see yourself and the world around you. I have some posts that may help with some of that so I won’t repeat everything I’ve said there, but if there’s something you can control that will help try and change it.

You don’t like your job? Job hunting is miserable but work towards something better, even if it’s looking into going to schools for something else.

Don’t like your living situation? Can you change it for the better?

Feel tired and out of shape? Try and find the motivation to start exercising, even if it’s just 10 minutes a day and working your way up.

Etc.

Practice self care. Find something that allows you to truly feel relaxed and free your mind. Relish in that relief and use the energy it gives you to power through.

I truly wish you all the best! Good luck!

There is hope in this life! Your life is so precious and you deserve the best. Have you talked to anyone about what you are going through? Please seek help from someone you trust! I hope you feel better and that everything goes well!
