Nighttime Anxiety

Hello, I just joined. I was wondering if anyone has experienced anxiety at night, like waking up and feeling anxious and you just need to get up and walk around for a few minutes? I have experienced a couple of bad panic attacks in the past few weeks and a lot of anxiety, sometimes overwhelming. I am in my 50s and could be approaching perimenopause although I don't know whether that has anything to do with it. I feel so alone and isolated that I wanted to reach out to see if anyone has experienced something similar. Thank you for listening.

Hi there sometimes people that dread thier next day routine like horrid job in morning can get anxious before sleep cause when they waken they have to do something they don't want to,but it could also be the other to.I think when we goto bed we lay thinking about everything well I do at times so now I occupy my mind with watching old boring relaxing movies on you tube ,that works for me,otherwise my mind would be racing.😸

Hi Curlybacks, Thanks for your reply. That sounds like a good tip to unwind. I appreciate it.

Absolutely, night time anxiety is very common and I experience it every now and then. The last few times that I have, I wake up and I feel like my heart is just going to stop, an awful feeling. I fall asleep pretty quickly after so I don't really do anything. But for you, maybe getting up and walking around would be good, have a glass of water or step outside for a breath of fresh air. I hope you sleep well tonight.

Thank you, IheartDogs. It's always good to feel you are not alone. I am suffering from racing heart right now. Hope it calms down. I appreciate the thought.

I have had many nights like that. Only I usually can’t get back to sleep, and I stay up worrying, and the later it gets the more worried I get it because I have to work! Unfortunately I resort to medicating myself to go to sleep. But this does sound more biological with you, if you have not dealt with this your whole life and is just coming up now.

Hello JRCoahran, I wonder if it might be related to perimenopause. I don't know. It's a fairly new phenomenon with me. The doctor prescribed Xanax for me, but I am afraid of sleeping in if I take it at night. Does your medication work well?

Excuse me..I am waaaaaaaay too young. HAHA Just kidding. Good thing to consider, but I do wake up thinking about specific traumas I've experienced. It could be both?! Thanks for the response.
