Has anyone ever had genetic testing to be prescribed the appropriate anxiety medication? My doctor wants to do this to find out what med will work. Has anyone had this done and did it work successfully?

I had this done! It worked so much for me.. I’m still not fully satisfied with how my medicines are making me feel but at least we have a guide as to the different medications we can play around with. It definitely helps rule options out so you don’t waste anymore time playing around with different medications.

Two of the medications I ended up having an allergic reaction to and sent me to the hospital were on the severe reactions list which is really a no brainer. But if I had the testing then I wouldn’t have had to go through that horrible time in my life.

It is not a 100% set and stone answer but it is definitely a great guide to help your doctor put you on the best medication path. I really recommend going through with this especially if you are sensitive and highly reactive to medications like I am.

Turns out the reason I’m so reactive is because I have a rare cyp2d6 gene in my liver which is ultra rapid at metabolizing. Which means I experience adverse effects 10x faster than a normal liver would.

So it was very insightful for me! Best of luck x

Thanks Rachel! I was on the fence about it since I have to wait ten days to have it done. Now I know it is worth it.

Yes, I've done both Genomind and GeneSight. Genomind was a lot more thorough. I found them to be useful.

I had it. It was a long cotton swab rubbed on the inside my cheek. It was to find out what anxiety meds will work for me. The meds aren't helping me. Give it a try hopefully you'll get better results.
