Scared for life now.

Hi all. I feel like shit. I feel like I’m withering away to nothing. My doctor told me to start my vitamin D on Monday but I don’t wanna wait any longer because it’s making me physically sick. I’m so tired and my back hurts so badly. How long will it take to get back up again? And other than the 50000 capsule what else can I do to make it higher? (Can’t eat fish. Gotta limit dairy) will being in the sun help too?

EDIT - I am scared to take this pill now because it’s a very high dose of vitamin D. Even though I will be taking it once a week for 12 weeks. 50000 seems like a lot? I’m scared even more now 😨

It looks like that dose is given when someone is severely deficient. The sun gives vitamin d, do you get much sun exposure? You need at least 20 minutes of direct sunlight each day

I do not. I have terrible anxiety and it gets worse when I feel bad so I don’t go out much.

50000 is for someone who is severely deficient and I guess I am. But now I’m scared to take it because I feel like it’s too much and I don’t want to overdose or take too much and get sick? I don’t know. I’m worried about taking that much I guess. I know she wouldn’t give me anything that would hurt me but I’m just cautious on what pills I take. I know that it’s only one pill a week for 12 weeks so it may not be a lot?

Can. You stand near a window or open a door and get some sun? You may have stomach upset but there shouldn’t be any major reaction.

Can you start off with lower doses and work up to the recommended amount? I would call your doctor and find out. Sounds like a lot right away. 😁

That’s the way they do it...don’t be afraid of the dose. It won’t hurt you and will hopefully make you feel better. I have patients on the same regiment of vitamin D as you. It’s nothing to be afraid of. Isn’t it ironic that we cry out for help and when we get it, we don’t want to follow through with the solution? Your doctor is capable of treating you for this. Most of us have a Vitamin D deficiency. I feel like I’m just rambling now! Wishing you the best!

Don’t be afraid! Your doctor knows best in this area. Please follow through with her treatment...

aaj23 no need to be worried. I have had this 12 week treatment several times and never have I had any bad side effects. This is standard protocol for raising low vitamin d levels.

Dont feel afraid to take this high dosage. I was prescribed the same but only for 6 weeks as my D level was VERY low. Like you I dont see sunlight due to anxiety/depression so now take shop bought D3 where I am gradually starting to increase it to 5000iu a day in preparation for winter. The only thing that happened to me when i took that 6 week course was I SLEPT so much sometimes upto 15 hours and felt occasional aches and pains here and there in my body. It cannot harm you, only do you so much good.

I just took it but I’m definitely gonna grab a bottle after this is done because I heard it takes time to get back to normal. Hopefully it helps. I’m sleeping a lot now and my back feels like it’s gonna break. Was it the pill that did it? Or the deficiency itself?

If i remember correctly I started sleeping a lot after a few days of taking the first capsule and had strange aches and pains through out my body and I have no idea why but that stopped after finishing the 6 week course.

Hi there, aaj23. I was/am very deficient in Vitamin D. My first check in January, I was at an 8. The 50,000 IU of Vitamin D2 once a week didn't cause me any side effects, but they didn't raise my Vitamin D levels at all (went from an 8 to a 9). My doctor told me that it happens because the D2 is not as bioavailable and doesn't readily absorb as well as D3. For the past 4 months, I've been taking 10,000 IU of Vitamin D3 (just an over the counter version I bought at the pharmacy) daily and my levels have gone up quickly. I'm finally up to 18! Maybe speak to your doctor about taking D3 instead? Now that my levels have gone up, my depression is starting to subside as well as all the body aches and tiredness that was plaguing me. Also, 20 minutes a day of sunlight will really help. I've done a lot of research online and it is REALLY hard to overdose on Vitamin D, especially when you're already deficient. Let me look for one of the articles that really helped me understand that Vitamin D3 is often better for some people (don't take my word for it though, but talk it over with your doctor).

That is TOO high, do you have food in your stomach when you're taking vitamins? If you don't that will cause terrible stomach aches I know cuz I've done it before

in reply to Want2BHappy3

No, it’s not...she’s already terrified to take a simple dose of Vitamin D that her body needs. Please don’t feed into her health fears. Vitamin D is harmless and increasing your levels can only help you. Please don’t stress about it! 🌺

Sorry, just being Honest...you can develop blood calcium, nausea and kidney stones. Her best bet would be to get natural Vitamin D from the Sun. Vitamin B and C can be to pee it out

in reply to Want2BHappy3

How common are those side effects, really? Your need to be right is more than likely increasing her anxiety. I administer Vitamin D many times every day I work and have not seen the side-effects you mention. Sitting in the sun poses its own risks as I’m sure you have a retort.

You know pretty much anything that you digest can have side effects, it just a possibility/warning. I had side effects from my cholesterol medication. Leg cramps, the dosage was lowered, the cramps are gone. There is NO guarantee

Congratulations on probably scaring this young girl out of taking medicine that will help her feel better. You’ve proven yourself to be a real downer on the quest here on this thread to help her feel BETTER! She has health anxiety to begin with...or did you not notice??

You've got NERVE trying to blame me for doing for nothing but giving my opinion... that's what happens when you write to this site. I write knowing that I might not like what I hear? You must be be a terrible person to your friends/family and those who write to this site not being REAL with them, MAYBE keeping them from getting HELP. WHAT world are YOU living in? Mines is REAL. I guess you're the type of person that doesn't want to hear the truth??? You're on this site for a reason so think about it? Im done writing to you, she didn't say that my opinion had any bearing on whether she took medication or not.

Oh!! But you were sooo helpful! A little insight and sensitivity to another person’s struggles would really be beneficial to you.
