Hello Thelastleaf!

I can’t begin to tell you where my tinnitus originated from since there are so many contributing factors! First of all, my mental health takes priority over just about everything because without that, I have nothing! I have taken various antidepressants for around 27 years, I had constant ear infections with tubes twice in my 20’s, I have always listened to music loudly, and worked in ICU for many years with constant loud alarms going off full-time. Take your pick! I have definitely earned my tinnitus! 😉 I take my mental health seriously and have never been overly picky about the side-effects. As long as it elevates my mood, I’m good! Wishing you the best!!

Thank you. Oh yes, it sounds like your ears have been thru the ringer ( no pun intended.) You seem like you have a good outlook on things and that is really good. Does having the T get to you at all or have you been able to drown it out and forget about it. I'm really scared to get it. Thank you for the reply and wishing you all the best (:

Honestly, it’s quite annoying and never seems to go away. It’s just one of those things, though. I try not to focus on it! Have a great day! 😎

I agree that you have to weight the benefits with the risks. Having said that I did want to say that my MD started me on 300mg of Wellbutrin and I got tinnitus immediately. I think he started the dose way too high and should have built me up to that amount. My sister uses Wellbutrin and has tinnitus but she feels good on the medicine so she stays on it. I only hear it at night or when I am in a quiet room. I did stop the Wellbutrin just because I hoped it would go away but it hasn't. Again, if a medicine works they all have risks involved you just have to weigh the benefit and the risk.

It's so scary to think that something that could bring me out of the depths of hell and bring me back to life can potentially make my life even worse by a dam ringing in my ear 24/7. That call is so hard to make because I know if I keep going on like this it wont be good. It's been 3 years that I have not lived, but just survived. Some people just need something but at what cost, ya know. I had so much hope that an AD would help me because I literally cannot get out of this torture on my own( depression, anxiety, ptsd from an accident that I had that messed up my lumbar. I've lost everything because of it. I went on the Tinnitis talk web forum and I scared the living crap outta myself with all the stories and about AD,s. They do have alot of suggestions people have tried and its helped there T get somewhat better if you wana take a look. Thank you for yoir reply. I would have answered sooner as I don't do much these days but I didn't get the msg in my email until today.

Did you find some other AD from the Tinnitis talk web forum that you might want to try?

I got tinnitus. I don’t think it was from the antidepressant. I used to use a lot of air actuated tools which were loud. Especially the impact wrench. Also when I let the air out of the compressor it would whistle really loud.

Yes, sounds like yours was due to noise trauma. Do you have any hearing loss from it. My father has pulsitile tinnitis and that was due to losing his hearing in his right ear. Hoping you have found some peace from it.

I have trouble hearing when I am in a large crowd and everyone is talking. I have trouble hearing the person I am talking to in that crowd, and when people talk low I have trouble. Besides that I now where hearing protection any time I touch a power tool.

Yes, I did. From Elavil. I'm probably an odd case. First the constant noice, drove me nuts, severe vertigo, couldn't walk staight, then out of the blue, the noice stopped, and I couldn't hear anything out of that ear. I was in the hospital at the time. They ran all kind of tests and scans on me. Then they happened upon the drug as the cause, although the symptoms were somewhat different then normal. They stopped the drug, and it wasn't too long, I was completely back to normal. Scary, though. I hope you do better with it.
