Anybody ever live in a place where you were not from there, and how was it?

Not personally but my sister did. She moved from the east coast to the west coast of the USA. She said people called her a “transplant”. And they would tease her about her accent. Which I never knew she had one.

Yes, that has been known to happen especially if you are in a different region!

I thought we all sounded the same unless you were from the Deep South. But my sister pronounces words very different now and says I have an accent. It’s like the twilight zone. She has been living on the west coast now fifteen years now.

The deep South certainly does have a distinctive accent to say the least- but people on the East Coast ( Northeast coastal ) also have a distinctive accent such as one from the Boston area - the long drawn out A and the almost dropped R.

I am in the northeast. We call the Boston accent the New England accent. You ever hear someone from Maine?

Yes- very similar to Boston- but a little more rustic- have you heard ?

Yeah my neighbors family was from Maine. I couldn’t understand them very well. They thought I talked funny. I would have thought they would sound more Canadian.

When I lived in California after growing up in New Jersey I got teased minimally about my accent, the 2 specific words I remember the most are water vs wooder and Orange vs Arange lol. I loved it though and now that I’m back on the East Coast I totally hear the Jersey accent and miss California more than ever! I often wonder if my life or at least my outlook on life would change if I moved back there... the jury isn’t in on that yet. I wouldn’t be running away from any problems hoping for a new life, just a new beginning would be nice. 💞
