Can’t stay put

Do you ever feel like you’re stuck? I’m stuck in a job I hate, a place I hate, and just want to move away to somewhere new. It’s so hard and requires so much research and $. I’d love to move away from the US and live in a place like Ireland or England, but even just moving somewhere out of the Midwest would be a dream come true. Anyone ever make a big move and have any advice?

Yes... I did it ....and I did it twice in two years. First because everything I had and knew were gone and it had completely changed my life...so...I moved to a place I used to vacation to. That turned out okay, but was poverty in paradise because the economy was in the toilet, but still, I was treading water and moving forward and happy enough. Then I fell in love, and moved half way around the world. I am finally exactly where I want to be, with the one I want to be with. We don't have much, but we have each other... I will tell you....I thought there was no way I could do it, lived in the same place most of my life, and didn't have the money....so....I sold everything I could, and then sold the rest of it which wasn't much, but it got me to where I needed to go. Just make sure you have some FU money in your pocket just in case you need to survive for a while till you get settled. If you just make up your mind to do it.do your homework on where you think you want to be..you will succeed....if I could, anyone could.

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience as I can relate to the situation. Did you have a job beforehand when you relocated? I’m terrified to move without having a job first but I’m at the point where I need to take an early withdrawal from my retirement fund to help me survive as my PT job is not sustaining me and I don’t want to live or work in this state anymore. I don’t want to let the $ dwindle down here, I want to take it & move but I’m scared. I also need to sell whatever I can because I don’t want to move with much and I need the $. I will essentially be starting over-career wise, financially, etc. Thanks for any advice!

I am feeling the exact same way. I want to move but not having a new job beforehand is causing me immense stress. However, I’m so depressed and insecure about my ability to find a new job that I look at listings but don’t apply. The definition of “stuck.” I hate my job as it is not financially sustaining, there are aspects I just despise and it’s only PT. I had more jobs before my depression became debilitating. I also hate where I live. Very soon I need to take out a loan to help me get by but I want to take the $ & relocate instead of letting it dwindle down in a place I hate. I need courage & hope. Have you made any decisions about relocating? Has something helped? I like the response you received. Thanks for sharing and wishing you best.

when I made my first big move...I went to temporary employment agency's, everyone I could find....and within a few weeks I was doing temp. work...by the third temp job they sent me on...I was offered permanent employment after the first year temp agency contract was up, and they started after 6 months training me to move up. I was in my fifties....with no degree, and only had run my own business for almost 30 yrs which gave me nothing for the new job market....so it just takes determination really.

Thanks so much! I’ve worked for temp employment agencies before and forgot about that option. There are also hiring/placement firms..just a matter of finding one at no cost to me. I’m going to do some research! Thanks again!!
