had a meeting with a professor today to talk about my dream career. It was crushing because I don't have the skills I need to even break into the field it seems like and I feel so small and stupid for thinking I could just waltz into it just because i have passion and a high GPA.

I have a similar issue. I went to school and got a degree in English. I wanted to become a college professor and teach creative writing. I now know that it requires so much schooling to do that, that there’s no way I could ever afford it. I don’t have a job in my field. I can’t even afford to move out yet. But I’ve since found that I am passionate about other things too, and I’m exploring more fields to see where I fit in. You’d be surprised what you’re passionate about. Most people say that have one dream job, but you may have more than one, probably many. Look into other things, you’ll find something you’re just as passionate about and won’t feel like you’re settling.
Thank you for such a thoughtful response. I also thought I really wanted to be a college professor. Teaching and learning have always been my passions. Its true that one can have many passions though
Another option you can do is teach overseas. Look into that. It can quench your thirst for teaching and traveling if you’ve got a travel bug like me. I looked into it and definitely may still do it at some point. Many countries want native English speakers.
What skills do you feel you are lacking especially if you have a high GPA? Congratulations on that by the way.
thank you. Mostly language skills. I made the mistake of taking spanish in high school instead of something more directly related to the areas I want to study but also research skills like data entry software. Its insane how much they expect of students these days
