Finding your career

OMG its so hard.. I worked for 10 years for a chiropractor then once that ended I cant for the life of me find a job that my anxiety doesn't force me to quit before my probation period is there. I have worked in the medical field over 20 years and its almost like everything is great - fantastic then one thing is wrong and then another and then my anxiety says quit. Why???

It’s anxiety. The beast! You have to work on your anxiety. That can solve the problem. Then if possibly just keep a job even if it’s bad so you can get your anxiety under control. Possibly therapy. Working through the problems you face with someone to make sure it’s not just anxiety causing things to look bigger than it usually does as it typically will. Staying busy will help a lot though.

I understand but does it get better once you quit? Anxiety is taking over and you are the boss! Anxiety makes us see everything worse and larger than what it really is. It lies.. It tries to destroy us. Staying busy helps and also exersice as it burns all that nervous energy. Best luck to you.

I lost a job in 2015 for no valid reason. Every job since I’ve always had a huge fear of getting fired. I get that my social anxiety causes me to not be liked. I’ve been at my current job almost a year and shit is hitting the fan. Thankfully I have some people who are supportive. I’ve made it clear I am seeking counseling for my contstand worry and seeing my Dr this week - I figure it’s less likely they can fire me if I’m covered under ADA.

Good Luck sweetie - its tough. I know I live with it every day and I never tell my employers what I suffer from hoping its not so obvious. I have always been an introvert growing up and then when I started working a real job (chiropractor for 10 yrs) I became more extrovert. So its tough because I am a people person and love people but life doesn't care that you are bipolar that just want their work done right without mistakes.

I’m truly considering a complete change of career if this doesn’t work (meds/counseling fix) I’m so heart broken. They know about it because my worry is clear. Even when I try to hide it. I can only pray positive changes will be noted

Its okay don't be disappointed or ashamed. you are who you are if they really genuinely care about you as a person they will work with you. This is one reason I have never explained to work that I suffer - I just do it in silence.. Only because now you have that hanging over your head worrying about what they think of you, or are they sharing your pain with others, is there rumors. etc.. see stress is bad. But go into work tomorrow like its a new day and shine...

A co worker started issues, then did something I can’t prove - it led to a rough rough weekend.

What do you have experience in? I have 20 years of medical admin and accounting and going to school for medical coding. In hopes to eventually work from home but its hard. I have always worked with billing and collections or been an office manager so I took on this new job as front desk receptionist but talk about stress (on overdrive). But I would google glassdoor.com in your area and see what the jobs you are looking for makes - and then see if you can live on it.

Social work

Hey, I have been there ( some years back) , but I am working albeit doing something related but different. The work world is a bit different ( yes, I am an old saw) than what I remember from many decades ago. People were not involved in the hi tech unless that was their specific field. As long as you can do the job and realize you are human I think that is what matters. I hope you continue to have support where you live so you do not feel isolated.

Good for you being in the med admin. Do you have a degree in that? So, you have to be organized and have the computor skills I would think , plus the accounting and math. Way to go. Do you have to be a programmer in order to do medical coding? Is that what coding is? I have worked in Education.

I don't have a degree I have just worked and gained work experience. Penn Foster is who I am going thru for billing and coding and its only 50 a month very affordable. You don't have to be a programmer or anything. It will teach you medical terminology and codes to use more so for the procedure code and diagnosis code.
