Any tips for having a good sleep schedule?

What is a normal sleep schedule? I honestly don't know the last time I had one. My mind is so active at night and seems to never stop. I have a horrible time trying to fall asleep. Whenever I do finally fall asleep I either sleep way too long or wake up a short time later. During the day I have things I have to do like most people so I can't sleep all day either. I feel like I'm always exhausted. Does anyone else have problems like this or experience with this problem? I'm curious of what has helped others and just looking for others who understand and are non judgemental. Thanks to all in advance.

Judgement! It’s 2:18 am here. I had a sleep study and never fell asleep enough for them to get any readings. He said when I’m able to sleep better he’ll do another one. It’s been close to 10 years and still haven’t had one. I adapt. I got a job at night. 6-12pm. Part time. I’m disabled. I schedule all dr appts late at night. Exercise and using energy helps. Sleep in dark quiet space. Try to go to bed every night at same time. Dark and quiet and focus on deep slow breathing. It helps. I have gotten use to the quiet at night with my dog sleeping on my lap. That’s my peaceful time. I enjoy it so I don’t try to change. I like sleeping when people are awake and being up when their asleep. Reading will stop your brain from overdrive if you are into what you’re reading. I’m just st laying down and it’s early for me. Hope you find your sleep! I have a cold or something so I’m tired. I’m also anemic which causes fatigue but I’ll sleep until noon. So it’s all good. Good night.

It is really nice to know I am not the only one like this and just hear from someone who understands. I definitely relate to wanting to sleep while everyone else is awake. I really enjoy the time when everyone else is asleep. That also makes me feel guilty for not wanting to spend time with family, even though I do want to spend time with family. If that even makes any sense. Noise bothers me no matter what time it is. I have began sleeping with a fan for white noise which seems to help somewhat. I don't know why I never thought about reading. I forgot that I used to really enjoy reading when I was younger. That's a really good idea that I am going to try. I'm sorry you are not feeling well. Hope you feel better soon.

I have my fan on 24/7. No tv because the noise stimulates my brain along with the light. I just go to bed around 4am and get up around noon. That is actually my “normal” sleep schedule. I could probably get a sleep study if they would do it on my time. I’m not worried about it. I’m only asleep generally in the morning. I’m not a morning person so lucky for them. Lol So I’m awake in the evening with family. Unfortunately for me but I make the effort. I think sometimes no one likes being lonely but you get used to it. I hate it and love it. I completely understand. I bet many others here would too!

You never have to worry about judgement or feeling alone in things here. It’s so amazing. It’s very seldom that someone’s emotional state will get the best of them and they act ugly. The admin are wonderful and are on it quick. You will always find someone who understands.

I would recommend drinking chamomile tea before bed and not being on electronics at least half an hour before bed. Set your bedtime to an earlier time if you haven't already. I know going to sleep past 11 will make you really tired. I personally quit caffeine because it interfered with my anxiety and I am feeling calmer and getting better sleep and I have two school aged kids and a baby! Maybe a hot bath and or a book before bed. Hope that helps!!

Oh and I forgot to add but if you really can't fall asleep taking Valerian Root will really do it ! I had crazy anxiety And a nervous breakdown a few years ago and couldn't sleep. Also was taking antidepressants and was up all night. valerian root defiantly helped me. It calms you and makes you drowsy

Try to go to sleep at the same time every night and avoid caffeine after 12pm. I also take a pill called Vistaril at night which helps with anxiety and insomnia.
