Afrin nose spray ok to take with meds??

shannon_nicole777 profile image

I'm on fluoxetine 20 mg. I have caught a cold and need to sleep so I took some afrin nose spray to help me breathe thru my nose. So I can sleep. But now I'm worried that there may be the possibility of a bad interaction between the two. Can't find any definitive answers. So far I feel fine. Does anyone know if it's ok for sure? It'll make me feel better knowing. Thanks!

Hi, I have not experience with Fluoxetine or Prozac. I checked interactions for your drug and Afrin nasal spray and found none. If ever in doubt, contact your physician. I hope you have a full and swift recovery from your cold . . . peace.

From personal experience I haven't had any problems with my fluoxetine and nasal spray. However, you shouldn't mix liquid or pill form cough medicine with your medication unless a doctor says it's okay.

I have sinus problems a lot, so I found a plain saline solution nasal spray. I love it because I can use it as much as needed with no problems.

I take Prozac too & as far as I know nasal sprays are okay. Cold medicine is a big go-to while on Prozac, had you aren't taking that risk. When in doubt you can always ask your doctor or a pharmacist (drug store ones are helpful). Hope you are getting plenty of rest & liquids. Wishing you well soon🌼🌷

Thanks everyone!! No I'm not taking any coldor cough meds...i knew that wasn't ok. Just wasn't sure abt the afrin. I tried a plain saline spray first but it didn't help withthe congestion. I slept pretty good, all things considered. Thanks again for your replies!
