After years of some quite extreme mood swings, I’m wanting to speak to someone to get some clarity. Do I have to do this through my GP initially??? Just tried to book an appointment and been told nothing free until mid November...

That's a good plan, but if it's not soon enough for you then look for a crisis center through your county health department they will help you get in to see someone right away.
