Panic/anxiety

Broke my wrist a little over 2 mos ago and developed castrophobia. Cast came off 1 monthe ago and turned into severy panic attacks. No meds have helped. I'm on 10 mg celexa which makes me nauseous. I have lost 20 lbs since this nightmare began and find it hard to leave my home. I just retired a year ago and am miserable.

wow, you sound like you are in a lot of pain, and you are so brave for sharing. While meds can help you, there are other things that can help ease the panic attacks. One thing is called grounding - you can do this a variety of ways - but it may help to calm yourself down by looking around the room and name 5 things - something you can see, smell, touch, taste, and hear. They can all be different things. Have you told your doctor about the awful side effects? I know you might be trying to "hang in there" but losing 20lbs because of an anxiety med is not right. Finding a medicine may take a while, but side effects should wear off in about 5-10 days. If they don't, call your doctor and see what else can help. This may mean finding a good psychiatrist who knows his/her stuff - my psychiatrist and I looked through a list of drugs for depression and anxiety and typical side effects. That helped a lot in finding one that wouldn't cause nausea or create problems like hallucinations.

Thanks so much for your help. I'm giving it 1 more week and then I'm done. Benzos caused bad breathing problems for me. I have a scarred lung from pneumonia. I will try the grounding! Thanks for caring. I have noone.
