I've had anxiety for a long time but last few years are unbearable. I was told I have pleurisy which is inflammation of the membranes around the lungs. Makes it hard to breathe, makes anxiety spike but here's my question. I have muscolalskeletal pain in my back and chest from this but when I take Klonopin my breathing symptoms are barely noticeable and my muscle pain starts going away. I've had EXTREME anxiety for along time but this is crazy. Can anxiety really manifest to this extent? I know what it's like to feel tight and hard to breathe from anxiety but this is a different ball game. Anyone have knowledge on this? I mean, the pleurisy is real but why does Klonopin make it better, becausr more of it is anxiety than what I even realize or what??
P.s. I had this pleurisy same time last year but was put on Klonopin quick so didn't experience it like this for this dutation. If I don't take Klonopin I'm suffocating it feels like!

Benzo's are prescribed to relax muscles as well as they are for the mind. Benzo's also make you have shallower breathing and that's why you would die on an OD, would would simply stop breathing, i suspect your shallower breathing may be effecting the movement on the outer lungs and not movign the inflamed parts as much which would cause the pain I would think, guessing here knowing pain and what benzo's do.
Benzo's make you not care about the small stuff. I have musculoskeletal pain as well and a xanax makes me not even think about it. Your mind simply put, is relaxed and not hyper aware of these pains. As my Psych would say, I just feel everything. I am hyper aware of my body.
My friend has really bad back problems and is on your normal cocktail of pain killers but also xanax because it lets you relax your muscles. Try doing a guided meditation from youtube or whatever. You do not realize how much you are still tightened up in the muscles even when you think you are laying down and relaxed until your are guided to relax even more. I know my neck muscles are always tight after doing this and the rest of me never truly lets go and is always tight to a one degree or another.
Yes the meds relax u and calm to he anxiety when u have the inflammation already and anxiety on top of that your muscles tight the meds relax u in turn makes u feel like I r able to breath better I know I had two pulled muscles in my ribs and took a xanax and was ok
