Good Morning everyone hope you are all OK.I had an ablation at Glenfield on the 25th Nov 2024,my heart has been in NSR since ablation.2 questions please
I am still being asked to to take Flecainide and Soltolol along with apixaban which I know apixaban may be a life choice. When are the tablets normally stopped?
2nd Question whilst on these tablets is it recommended that I have a 3 monthly blood test because my GP have stopped them after my ablation.
Kind regards Andrew

I was taken off Diltiazem and Flecainide as a PIP immediately after ablation with a view to review at 3-month follow-up. However, had episode of AF day after ablation and put back on Diltiazem but told not to continue with Flecainide if I could as EP not happy about me taking this med. My ablation was in August 2023 and number of episodes improved greatly since then but still there occasionally without any rhyme or reason. They are shorter though - about 1-2 hours - and as long as I drink plenty of squash (1-2 pints) I find they go without resorting to medication. I continue with the Rivaroxaban and have blood tests every 6 months. Good luck
Yes thank you. I'm happy with the way things are at the moment. I don't keep worrying about having an episode now. Have a good Christmas and happy and healthy New year
3 month blood tests? Unusual, what for?I'm remaining on flecanide after my ablation. Review in March 25. Ablation 2022. I deem it a success as AFib wasn't responding to meds prior.
Apixaban I'd fight anyone who even suggested stopping it !
I had an ablation at Glenfield in September 2023, (Dr Sandilands did it, who did yours? ) I’ve had to stay on Edoxaban for life and I had to stay on Sotalol, 80mg twice daily. I was told to stop it a few months ago and did it very gradually and had got down to 20 mg twice daily, when my blood pressure shot up to very high levels and I had to put it up the Sotalol to 40 mg and I was put on 2.5 mg of Amlodipine, which brought my blood pressure down to normal again. Sotalol brings your blood pressure down, so that is why, when I’d almost stopped it, my BP went up. I should have been given blood pressure tablets, when I was told to stop the Sotalol. Anyway Dr Sandilands rang for the last follow- up appointment last week and told me to try again and put the Amlodipine up to 5mg, so I’m waiting till the New Year to reduce the Sotalol. Don’t want any problems over the festivities.
Hi Andrew, I had my ablation under Professor Ng at Glenfield in March this year. I have seen him privately twice since at 4 monthly intervals. I had a holter monitor on in August and he was pleased with results as I just had a few ectopic beats and a couple of tachycardia runs lasting less that 3 seconds. I saw him again only 2 weeks ago and he says he wants me to continue with the Sotalol as he likes 'belt and braces'. He has allowed me to drop the 40mg at lunchtime but wants me to take the 40mg twice a day morning and night. He says this is a low dose and I believe he expects me to continue with this protocol. Maybe this is just him or is common practice at Glenfield, I would be interested to know if your treatment is the same. I am told I will be on apixaban for life. I have been in NSR since the ablation and told it was successful.
Had my 2nd ablation in July 2023 by DrChin at Glenfield.
I was on Sotalol 2 x 80mg a day and have got it down to 2 x 40mg now and he wants me to go change to 5mg Bisoprol a day in new year. Am nervous about the change in case it triggers my af but I’m keen to take the minimum amount of meds as possible so I’ll give it a go.
