Migraine tablets suitable for apixaban/bisoprolol/amlodipine users

My wife is on apixaban following an ablation a couple of years ago. She occasionally gets migraines - anyone know of any migraine tablets suitable for people taking apixaban, bisoprolol and amlodipine?

Really best to discuss with pharmacist as these people know about any contra indications. Of course no NSAIDs or aspirin goes without saying.

I suffer with frequent migraines and have been prescribed Sumatriptan. I am also on Apixaban, Flecanide and Verapamil. It works well.

Just checked out Sumatriptan. Apixaban is one of the medications they recommend consultation with GP before using Sumatriptan so we'll do that. Many thanks for the input.

My wife has had similar issues and discussed this with her GP. All the 'goto' migraine medicines the GP could prescribe do not mix with her current meds. Best she could get prescribed was high strength codeine.

We googled best solutions for migraine and came across a iced gel pack on the head. In my wifes case it did help a bit.

AS BobD says talk to GP to check against your exact meds but be prepared to be disappointed.

Thanks for your comments. Looks like it's a consultation with our GP. Sumatriptan was mentioned by MarinaT. Is that something you've looked into previously? Also the icepack sounds well worth a try - I don't think that will interfere with Apixaban :)

I use Migraleve. Pharmacist says that fine.

Thanks. I've just run a google search - couldn't see any issues with apixaban.

I too suffered from migraine and my gp (after looking at length in his medical book) prescribed Tramadol!! I took one and felt like I was floating on the ceiling ... now I only take paracetomol and rest!

Pharmacists have told me to keep away from migraine medication. Have too many side effects and NSAIDS are out. However, when I have had a migraine due to an ablation, I have taken a 10mg dose of melatonin and that seems to help. Doesn’t get rid of it but lessens the severity.

Interesting, but from Google it would appear that melatonin affects blood coagulation so it may not be suitable for those taking apixaban.

I take Xarelto and whether it affects blood coagulation or not is moot. A severe migraine that lasts twenty hours or more affects my well-being. Taking one tablet certainly has not affected me, and, in years past I use to take it every night and stopped after my third ablation.

I get occasional migraine but very severe with excruciating pain over one eye, photophobia, extreme nausea and vomiting. They usually happen during the night, so I don’t always wake up in time to take paracetamol/codeine before the nausea strikes. I used to take pink migralieve tablets which contain an anti emetic, but they don’t seem to be available any more, just the yellow ones which are just co-codamol.

The pharmacist recommended Buccastem (prochlorperazine) tablets for the nausea, which you tuck under your top lip between the lip & gum & they dissolve and absorb there. Then she wouldn’t sell me any as there is an interaction with Apixaban which can make anticoagulation slightly less effective! However she still advised me to contact my GP to get them prescribed as if I was vomiting, I wouldn’t be able to keep the Apixaban down & get the effect of anticoagulation anyway - my GP agreed, especially as I only get a few a year.

Buccastem are also brilliant for seasickness as you don’t have to swallow anything & they take effect within minutes. Always discuss with your pharmacist / GP.
