been reading the benefits linked to AF for people taking this supplement. Has any one here here been a regular user and able to comment on any positive or negative experience of doing so?

Been taking both for as long as I had AF if not longer. Never noticed any difference.

I'm the same as Bob, been taking both for years. I've not noticed any difference. Cardiologist Sanjay Gupta who works at York Hospital in the UK said his patients with AF found magnesium helped. Zinc I believe helps prevent infections. X

I have been taking magnesium since last May, after a big AF episode. After the episode I was getting a lot of ectopics and I felt continually anxious particularly in the morning. When I started the magnesium, the ectopics reduced significantly. So I wouldn’t be without them now.

I avoid Magnesium by mouth but when I have symptoms of Magnesium deficiency, cramping muscles, I use a topical spray.

Zinc supplements have no proven benefits, even for immune system but VitD3 with K2 does. VitC I find useful

The one supplement I notice a difference if I don’t take - Coq10 and VitB complex - helps mitochondria produce energy - doesn’t do a thing for AF but I don’t get as tired.

With apologies for stating the obvious, but try using the 🔎Search option at the top of the page. You will find many previous comprehensive Posts discussing these supplements.

I think care needs to be taken over zinc owing to potential long-term issues, but magnesium is safe. Trials cannot show any effect on heart arrhythmias but some here take it and feel it to be of some use. I tried for months with no useful effect at all and suspect any effect will be at the placebo level which, sadly, I seem immune to!

What are the issues with zinc?

I didn’t think there were any myself, but a friend who takes great care over these things and has taken it for years combined with vitamin C told he’d stopped doing as he’d read something negative.

I suspect it’s quite safe and is said to be good for the immune system.

My understanding is that many of us are extremely low in Magnesium. It is a relaxant. For me if I go more than 3 days without taking it I will have a Charlie horse in the middle of the night or early morning. That is a horrible muscle cramp. So what about our heart, since it too is a muscle? I think it is a must to take. Just my opinion.

Please contact your doctor or ask a pharmacist in advance, everyone is different and responds differently to additional medication, they are best to advise if they are likely to interact with any other prescribed medication.

Kind regards

I've been taking a high dose mag taurine supplement for at least a year but my episodes have become more frequent, so I don't know if it's doing anything. Of course, there's no way of knowing what would have happened if I wasn't taking it.

I believe the value of vitamin and mineral supplements is greatest when you are deficient. The trouble is convincing your doctor to order the tests to check.
