magnesium supplements

hi all. I have read a few places that magnesium is a good element to take as a supplement. Does anyone have any recommendations for what type of supplement or magnesium compound/mixture is best?

Any ideas most welcome.

I take Magnesium Glycinate and also Taurine, both in capsule form. I think all types of magnesium are fine apart from magnesium oxide.

I take magnesium taurate daily. Mine are in capsule form, although I snip them open & disperse on my breakfast porridge! Says each capsule is 600mg (160% NRV) on the bottle. Was recommended to me by both my EP and GP on the basis of ‘anecdotal evidence, give it a go’. Personally, I have found it has made an enormous difference in reducing my ectopic burden.

Do you use the tom Oliver magnesium taurate? I might try that!

Yes that’s exactly what I buy. I get the multibuy x 3 from that well known online retailer that sounds like a river.

Great to hear it helped with ectopics. Just made things calmer?

Less of them. Markedly so. To be honest I had no expectations and the result was surprising to me.

I take 2 magnesium taurate capsules each day from a company called Ethical Nutrition as they have no fillers and come in recyclable pouches. I have stuck to Mg Taurate after hearing Sanjay Gupta ( York Cardiology) recommend them , though now he has broadened his choice. Many people swear by magnesium sprays or baths containing Epsom Salts, there seem to be several studies supporting this and the higher absorption because it doesn't have to pass through the digestive tract. Some sprays are a bit sticky.

Is it okay to take Magnesium Taurate if you are on Bisoprolol and Apixaban for AF? If it is will definitely try it.

Pharmacists usually good people to ask. I can't really comment. I take it with apixaban. There is a good website called drugs.com . You can put in all your meds and search for interactions. It's how I found out flecainide may interact with tamoxifen and required careful monitoring although oncologist unconcerned.

I take magnesium glycinate. 2 × 125mg daily. But been taking it only for 10 days so I don't know if it makes any difference. Decide to take it to better up my sleeping and also for the afib-heart reason obviously.

Hi, I often wandered about supplements, in particular Mg, that might help with AF / ectopics. As a rule, I always ask for advice before introducing anything new and took the opportunity to do that on a recent cardiology review. I was told, if you have a good, balanced diet then Mg supplements should not be needed.

I use a topical magnesium spray when I get muscle spasms - usually in my legs and feet which is a sign of low magnesium in muscle cells.

I avoid all oral magnesium supplementation.

Of course it is. Calcium and magnesium work in conjunction to fire and relax muscle but when you have a problem with neurotransmitters as I do you don’t mess around with magnesium.

I take magnesium bisglycinate from Love Life and taurine from Solgar separately in capsules. For years I took the combined one that Dr Sanjay Gupta recommended but they then became difficult to get hold of and the price shot up astronomically.

Spoke to my Naturopath yesterday (more expensive than my cardiologist !😖) his view is: Magnesium Taurate to support heart and muscle health. Magnesium Citrate particularly utilised by the mitochondria in the cells. Magnesium glycinate to support the nervous system.

He produces a tablet with all 3 forms in, sorry Admin don't allow links.

Also I have been advised to take 100mgs CoQ10 with it.

Yes good point. Not sure whether having a mix is good or not? Maybe just take one like Taurate?

I've been advised by 2 cardiologist here in Canada that magnesium malate is the most efficient form.I have been using it for about 10 years.

I haven't noticed and negative or positive reactions.

I started Magnesium Chloride as a possible aid for reducing muscle soreness post-workout. No problems noticed with heart, and my body seems to be able to take quite a beating at the gym. I have to check on the Taurate as it seems to the the compound of choice. I am a month into 540mg x 2 and am pleased so far.
