Going into my 7th week after cryoablation and having problems with my acid reflux getting a lot more worse. Feel sick on my stomach, pain in chest and feel full up to my throat. This recovery is horrible. One thing after the next. I take my acid blockers and added carafate and protoxix to the mix. Has anyone experenced this? What did you do to help?

Have you spoken to your doctor about how you're feeling? If you're already taking acid inhibitors and they're not helping, perhaps you could have an infection and need antibiotics.

Meanwhile cut out all foods containing fat, vinegar and yogurt. Also get someone to pop some blocks or books under the feet at the top of your bed to raise it. I'm not medically qualified, but have learned this from experience.

Let us know how you get on please and ring your doc.

Agree, you shouldn’t have those symptoms. It is very unlikely but if you get a fever as well it is an emergency. Everyone’s anatomy is different and it may be that the ablation irritated your oesophagus. Do call your doc.

I essentially had the same issues and it turned out to be my gallbladder. Removal solved my problems. I had always assumed issues such as chest discomfort were heart related and other symptoms were acid reflux.

Having had cryoablation myself in November, I was told the blanking period - the period during which you CAN experience AFIB - lasts for 12 weeks post procedure. So at 7 weeks, the AFIB is common as your heart resets.

I follow a strict keto diet (natural saturated fat and high protein) and asked my doctor if such a diet can trigger AFIB, and he said not at all.

Ring your doctor and describe your symptoms - they can help I’m sure.

Thanks for responding. These docs here don't tell you anything. I know from reading posts that this can happen but I have had reflux all my life and now it's worse. I feel sick on my stomach, bloated which adds to my anxiety. It's bad enough to feel your heart skipping around and trying to deal with that. The harder I try to stay clam, the worse I feel. Mentally, this is a hard battle. I have had 4 heart attacks, 4 stents and an aorta that has a bulge in it that healed. Honestly..what next? I'm only 68 and to me that is still young. Sorry- I'm just venting.

I would get nauseated after eating. Didn't matter what I ate. I lost six pounds in a week and a half. I was miserable! I did my own research and found one of my medications caused this side effect at times. I changed my Pradaxa to Eliquis and the condition disappeared. Could a medicine you are on be adding to an already worrisome condition? May be worth looking into.

Thank You for responding. Aside from my Zantac I started back on my Protonix and I think that's the ticket. I will have to learn to eat little meals at a time. actually I only eat 1 time a day since I also had a bowel re-sect in 2019. This is a hard recovery and I wish my doctor would have researched my health record before hand. I will certainly let him know that when I see him this month. He will account for his actions.

I had exactly the same . GP increased my PPI( acid blocker). Visit your GP. It’s important you don’t cause oesophageal damage. That’s why they give you the medication after the Cryo ablation. Don’t hang about trying various remedies.

This article from USPharmacist deals with the this topic in some detail and describes the various available medications. I agree with the others that you need to address this promptly by seeing your cardiologist. See: uspharmacist.com/article/ga...

Hi mlp I had exactly the same problem and I was worried my oesophagus had been damaged during the ablation. At my 12 week review, telephone consultation I said my throat felt blocked and pain I my oesophagus, EP put me back on Lansoprazole, after a few weeks the pain in my throat and oesophagus has lessened considerably and I no longer take the acid reflux drugs. However the reason I am replying to you is that when the consultant send his letter to my GP after the 12 week review it said “apart from the PVI a carinal line was created on the right”. IThis was the first I knew about this, I looked up carina and it is next the tracea or windpipe - so now I know why I was the only one in a ward of six that on the day of the ablation to be prescribed Lansorazole.

I wish they had explained this to me, I did email and telephone several times during the first few weeks after the ablation when the pain and discomfort was really bad, but I was just told to carry on taking Lansoprazole. At my next review in 12 weeks I will ask about this carinal line and why it was done. So maybe that is why your throat is so sore? On the plus side I have been AbFib free for 4 months, the last 3 months without Flecanaide, they still say I have to continue with 1.25 Bisoprolol and of course Apixaban. Hope this helps Abby

This happened to me a few weeks after ablation. I had pre-existing gerd and take 40mg omeperazole twice daily. The heartburn was unbearable. EP sent me back to the hospital to ensure there wasn’t a hole in the esophagus. 10 hours later, I was sent home with a report that there was no hole and a prescription for carafate, which helped a bit. They said likely irritation from the proximity of the esophagus to the atria. Finally started to improve a few weeks after that. Good luck!
