I didn't feel quite right for about 12 days, so don't worry you should be fine shortly. As far as the esophageal fistula I must tell you I never even thought about it, if I remember correctly my doctor said they would have know if it had happened before I was discharged the next morning. I could be wrong about that due to the drugs. So try not to worry your self to much ( easy for me to say), but it sounds like you are doing well. Best wishes !
Thanks for the reply Victoria. I was told that it would not be apparent for some days and that I must take PPI's for 2 months. They are supposed to help with the problem, but many of those dying had taken them. I had never heard of this risk until I was asked to sign the consent form.
I suppose I should be grateful for my ignorance, saved me from a lot of worrying. But I do remember having to take medication for a few months for that exact problem.. try not to worry, as I said earlier you seem to be doing well.
Many of those dying???? I believe that the numbers are minute and usually in the hands of inexperienced operators. If you procedure was carried out in a reputable centre then the chance is minuscule and in any event I think that they would be aware immediately.
Not always, I had an angiogram that turned out to be by someone on a learning process. He was unsupervised and it took 50 minutes. He kept on asking for other sizes of catheters and at one point asked the nurses if she could do it when he came to a tricky bit. No fear, she said so he then gave up saying I have seen enough your arteries are clear.
Hi Graham, I found it takes a bit of time. The recommendation on this forum is to do very little for a couple of weeks and then see how you go.
I recommend you talk with your GP if you feel 'off'. After my ablation, I also didn't feel well, but I waited two weeks to see if I would feel better, but when still not good I went to my GP who has been wonderful and has helped identify a few other issues which are delaying my recovery (bronchitis and liver issues).
In hindsight It may have been better for me to have gone to see him earlier rather than putting my symptoms down down to the ablation recovery..
And was in afib for over two weeks after it. I felt sick and light headed and tired during that time. I suspect that's normal. Sorry I've never heard of the fistula but sounds scary that people die from it. Oh heck
I have never even paid attention to this AEF business and in the last week I have heard about it from 3 different people worried about it. I have had 2 ablations and never considered this risk. Ignorance sure is bliss. I took Lanzoprazole for 6 weeks after my last ablation as a precaution for something or other. Maybe that was AEF?? I dunno! X
Hi Vony. Yes the reason you were given the PPI Lanzoprazole was related to the AEF. However, when you go through the literature the people developing it have been taking a PPI.
The good news for you is that you are in the safe period.
