I have been getting bad leg cramps every night for about a week and getting worn out. These are at front & side of leg & toes curl up.Nothing seems to help but walking around for a good 15 mins.No fun at 4 in the morning. I have Epsom salt crystals which I was using until 6 months ago for foot problems.I will try tonight & for a few days.Anyone had any success trying this?

Yes I did as can’t take oral Magnesium supplements - but Magnesium Oil is so much more effective.

I use Ancient Minerals magnesium spray on oil and take an oral magnesium compound.

Thank you but I would rather not try tablets as I struggle with acid due to a hiatus hernia.

Yes, I found Epsom Salt baths twice a week helped (often on offer 2 for 1 at Boots). I also had a Magnesium Spray which was useful if I got cramp at night to rub in; only downside was Mg was suspended in oily base so not so good for the bedcothes! Also I do a daily exercise where I place a tennis ball under my feet and massage which helps. I also keep a tennis ball by the bed if I get an attack of cramp at night.

I find the tennis ball & other stretching exercises help for calf & thigh & arch cramps but these are down my shin bone & the fine bone or tendon at the side of the leg. Strange though it might seem a bar of soap in the bed worked for a long time.

I have a banana every day. When I stop for a while, my leg cramps come back.

Thanks, the soap is a new one for me :-)

Magnesium supplements and a magnesium cream worked really well and cured my husband’s calf and foot cramps. When he stopped, it all came back so would definitely say it helped him.

We were recommended Better You brand by a Functional medicine doctor I have seen it in health food shops and supermarkets.

If you fancied something as a real treat, is organic and smells divine, Neom do a range of magnesium creams but they are a few more ££.

I had some for Christmas and have enjoyed using them but could not say whether they work on cramps for sure. But from a sleep point of view/relaxation and moisturising it was great.

Hope you find a solution, it is horrid.

I am a fellow sufferer with night time leg cramps - painful isn’t it! The only advice I can offer (after years of dealing with this) is ensure you keep your water levels up during the day - start early and get properly hydrated this undoubtedly does help. Personally I’d rather get up during the night to use the loo than by an attack of leg cramp😱. I’ve tried the magnesium oil and I do find it effective but more when the attack is actually happening rather than something to keep attacks at bay. Good luck, I do feel for you. 🙏
