I have a nightmare cough and Monday went to docs been put on antibiotics and steroids (I’m asthmatic). However my cough is getting worse and last night I was coughing up blood streaked phlegm but it’s ok this morning.
I’m panicking a bit as wondering if they will do my cardio version next Thursday if I’m not well . My stats are all fine and I’ve just got a croaky voice and stupid cough -I just need too get rid of this.

Are you certain it’s not your asthma and you might need higher dose of your meds? My daughter developed asthma when she was about 7 and I managed it with her. If she started coughing at night particularly, I knew she needed more medication. This can happen also if she was developing an illness. Do you think maybe your impending procedure is making you stressed? May be that that’s making you cough?
I’m very wheezy so ive upped my blue inhaler and taking symbicort did ring asking to see gp again was told by nurse to wait until antibiotics kick in and steroids.

Do you have a peak flow monitor? Daughter had one and I’d get her to use it twice a day and note the result on a chart. That helped to see how she was doing. I know a lot of surgeries didn’t give a monitor or do regular checks. Was a long time ago and she seems to have out grown it for now.
I am yes was first told it would probably revert after having a chest infection and being in hospital then put on lots of tablets ( ha was only on inhalers before all this! ) and told had to wait 3 month for cardio version also told only works 50% of time so I’m being positive.
Still haven’t seen a cardiologist they cancelled my appointment for December not heard anything since so I assume I only see a arythmia nurse.
The persistent coughing may make you bleed.
Once my peak flow went down to 120. The current bug going around it went to 150 and really rotten Af. Steroids and anti biotics did the trick but the cough didn't go for just over 2 weeks.
You can buy a peak flow machine in any chemist.... the hospital gave me one also.
Just a thought, you mention ' lots of tablets', if one if them is Ramipril this is known to cause an irritating cough in some people. There are alternatives, I got switched to Candesartan and the cough disappeared within 48 hours.
I’m on losartan for bp, and Rivaroxaban and diltizem , digoxin, frusomide could be one of them maybe I’m going back to gp this morning I’ll ask if it could be them
Losartan can also cause a chronic cough. I hope you feel better soon
The incidence of pneumonia and pleurisy seem recently to be on the rise (including myself). Persistent coughing, which I ignored, was the first symptom. Just a thought.

Peteratsylvan makes a valid point. Are you on any medication with a generic name that ends in ipril as any of these can cause a persistent chronic cough. I would also be wary of using vinegar as acid reflux can be the cause of a chronic cough that will sometimes respond to lanzoprazole or similar drugs
I had a persistant and in due course very bad (retching) cough a few years ago. I thought it was a cold developing. It turned out to be oral thrush in my throat. (Which according to the authorities is quite rare and not infectious - funny thing that, a friend of mine with health problems had had it not long before and I was staying with her ... ). This wasn't spotted till the doc looked specifically at my throat. It was behind my tonsil line, not at the front of my mouth. It took a few months and repeat medicine to clear up. Just a thought.
I was told by my GP that the cough could be caused by either silent reflux or a nasal drip irritating the throat. He said to try Omeprazole for a month to see whether that would stop the cough. I have done that for the past 2 weeks and there is some marginal improvement, BUT I have to take eye drops daily to fend of Gluaucoma risks and I know from taste that these drops can find their way into my nasal passages and my throat, so I suspect this may be the most likely, BUT I also am on Ramipril so that is another potential cause.
The one reassuring factor is that a chest x-ray last week did not reveal any issues.
Not easy to get to a solution and at this time of year our damp climate may be at the root of everything and polluted air probably does not help.
Well I’ve been back to doctors today and he thinks it’s viral I’ve got laryngitis nothing more he can do I asked so shall I stop antibiotics he replied no in case it goes on chest although I’m very wheezy it’s not pneumonia no temperature and he said if I’m still like this next they won’t do cardioversion, he said nothing you can do out of your control so now just have to keep fingers crossed 🤞
I hope it clears up by next week. I know what you mean about looking forward to having a cardioversion it sound mad ,but mine was cancelled because my thyroid test came back too low. Now it's not going to be until February or March. Fingers crossed. Just want to feel normal again .
Ahh no Bella160 I feel for you . I remember Seeing a defibrillator in docs and saying can’t you just use that one in reception for me, ha ha.
I messaged arrhythmia nurse this afternoon who said don’t lose heart you have a week ! He also said I’d have to wait another 3 month if needed to reschedule and looking at February now as they have had influx /really busy with cardio versions.
I’m thinking there is no way I can take another 3 month of work .
