Cryoablation tomorrow

Hi all joined site a couple months ago. Wish I would have found it sooner. Can't tell you how much it has helped with info about everything related to AF. I'm 51 yr old male diagnosed with PAF last February. I've been on Metoprolol,Sotalol and am currently taking Multaq and Xarelto. All meds worked for a period of time but AF always got worse eventually. Now I'm getting bouts every other week lasting 4 - 6 days before going back into NSR for about the same time. Had been on the fence about getting ablation for quite a while. After reading posts and watching you tube videos about people's experiences with the procedure and the results I decided it was time to get done before ending up in permanent AF. Not to mention the prospect of getting off meds except for AC. Had a heart attack when I was 27 due to blood clot. Subsequently found out I have factor v leiden. Had been on aspirin until AF diagnosed then started AC. Like most people when first diagnosed I was very anxious, thinking I'm going to die and off to ER when it hit. Now able to ride it out and carry on for the most part knowing I'm anti-coagulated. Won't lie I'm still a little anxious about ablation even after all I've read but I trust my EP and we've always had a great relationship. Truly believe he's always had my best interest at heart. Just wanted to give as quick as possible background in case others out there like me. I'll let you know my experience with the procedure and the results soon. Hi Shaun and welcome. And good luck tomorrow. I just want to say don't be afraid to say/complain/ask about anything that you're concerned about. I've found, among the replies, someone always responds with what I need to hear. Cryoblation was a good decision for me it has taken a year though to really get over it so don't think it's a quick fix you have to take care of yourself but I am 74 I am still on all meds because of other heart problems but still think it was well worth it so good luck to you try not to worry

hi mazza, hope you are well. any particular reason why the recovery is taking long, i.e. approx a year?

They aren't sure I was having lots of short episodes of AF but the have got less and less I still have the occasional one but they have always resolved without intervention but I feel much better it was my best option as I can't take the drugs as I also have cardiomyopathy and LQTS

Best thing I have done in a long while... No complications really for me thankfully (apart from visual migraines for three weeks) then AF free for 23 months so far and off meds

Top tip I took from posts on this brilliant site was...

"Don't rush back to full life too quickly!" Very very important !!

I was in at 7.30 am and home by 9.30 pm!

Good luck Shaun.... It’s natural to be anxious. Each experience is different so just be positive..
