I had an ablation for AF on the 15th October it all went well I went back to work after a week but feel really tired (12hours sleep a night ) and no energy is this normal? I have only had one episode of a high rate since the procedure this lasted approx 5 hours and was 150bpm while sitting on the sofa .

Yes quite normal. Try and rest as much as possible.I understand pressure to take as little time off work, but do take it easy for few weeks while your heart recovers. Good leaflet on here ,great info. Best wishes
In my view going back to wrok so soon was extremely unwise. Forget what doctors tell you about recovery. read the link I will post at the bottom of this message whichw as complied by patients. Please take it easy and rest as much as possible or the whole thing may end up wasted and need repeating.
Welcome to the forum Shane, I agree with BobD, it was far too soon for you to go back to work 1 week after an ablation. I hope you don't have a strenuous job.
I admire your stamina but, like the others here, I think you probably went back to work too soon. I was like a wet noodle for two or three weeks after my Cyro Ablation. The heart has been traumatized and needs all the rest and time to heal you can give it. All the best.
Going back to work after a week was far to soon and agree with the others. Please read the sheets on recovery BobD as sent the link too. You need to give your heart time to recover and heal after the trauma of an ablation. Please take care.
I had 4 weeks off after my ablation and wished I'd had longer. I could just about walk properly after a week.If you can take more time off, that would probably be better and not risk putting pressure on an already grumpy heart.
I felt rubbish for ages. It was four months before I could walk briskly again and 5-8 months before I dared run (jog) again after all three of mine. The EP told me I'd be running after two WEEKS!!! For this reason I have refused a 4th having had the previous three within 20 months. So, yes, you will feel tired! I'm in my late 50s btw so a relative youngster but a v slow healer
Hi , it's not always easy or possible to stay off work but I know from my own experience it's not worth rushing things. After my 2nd ablation my very well meaning partner was encouraging me to walk with him and the dog a few days after the procedure. I was knackered but I wasnt told I couldn't. I thought I was doing the right thing (yeah I can hear you all saying how crazy I was) but seriously no one said I should really, really rest afterwards. Then...I came onto this site. The guys dont pull any punches when it comes to helping you help yourself. I had a tidy up procedure later but that didn't work and I still should have rested more! I'm up for my 4th on the 17th November (had one cancelled in September) and guess what I'm going to do? Sod all ! I have warned my partner, I have warned the dog, my heart is my priority. I'm lucky in that I am retired and it's easy for me to do this. Please do whatever you can to rest up and repair your pump. Show your boss, co workers, family, friends, these comments if it helps. Be well 🌻
I had an ablation (cryo) at the end of September, I understand your concerns
Everyone is different; ages, sex, Co morbidities and medication and people will respond and need to recover differently. So imho you were not wrong to go back to work if you thought it right, but you are now finding out that your body wasn’t recovered
My EP said two weeks post ablation before going back to the gym, but as BobD and other responders state time does matter.
Although I wanted to rush back to ‘normality’ I reflected on the forum posters advice/experience and boded my time
I rested completely for those first two weeks and day 15 onwards I gently increased walking.
I have now been to the gym and lifted weights etc but with significant care and reduction in volume intensity.
I have had two shifts back to work and subsequent annual leave, I am now back at work albeit reduced hours.
Even 6 weeks post I am mindful of undoing the good work. A lot is psychological as you can’t always change and for me the aspect of being back at work and being ok after was mentally good, as was the gym and being in sinus after a workout
The litmus test is always after the medication is stopped in my case amiodarone and after that ‘3 month blanking period’ but every day I am in sinus and doing slightly more boosts me. I plan to get back to my normal in the new year
My gentle advice would be to utilise all the suggestions given here and pace yourself and gradually build up back to your normal
I had a cryoablation 9 months ago and am generally doing well. I will say it took about 3 weeks to get going again and there were definitely ups and downs and I found stress to be my trigger for a couple of Afib episodes. In addition, there are still times when I don’t feel quite right such as fatigue and light head, but not hard to work through it, and each month gets better.
Patience, keep moving, and positive attitude have been working for me. Good luck!
