Hello,

Anyone know if it's OK to take paracetamol with apixaban. Or any other pill against aches and pains.

I can only speak for myself....I take co-codamol with no ill effects and I take Apixaban. Patricia.

My doctor advised me that paracetamol and co-codamol are OK with Apixaban but not to take anything aspirin-based or any NSAID's such as ibuprufen or diclofenic.

Hi Peddling

As I understand it Finvola has it exactly right, no aspirin or ibuprofen with any anti-coagulant as they can increase the anti-coagulation effect.

But I would add, it's always worth ringing your doctor or pharmacist to double check, and in these matters pharmacists are superb and will often spot potential interactions and warn you about them, it's to a large extent their specialised field.

Be well

You can always check on line if there are any interactions between drugs. Just type in ' can I take ..... with ........' and Google does the rest. Clever!

Hi

I've taken both paracetamol and co-codamol with Apixaban. There's a list of drugs you shouldn't take in the literature with the tablets.

best wishes

Thank you all for your advice. My immune system seems to have given up and I can't clear flu/bronchitis.

You may require antibiotics and steroids if it is really persistent, ie lasts more than 3 weeks. have you seen your GP? If not, suggest that you do.

I attended a 1:1 appointment to review of medication with pharmacist last week (I was invited to) and it was very worthwhile. She said that it was always worth popping in or phoning since to make sure that the combination of medications was OK. Worthwhile noting that some industry sectors / some employers do not allow you to take co-codamol or even paracetamol with codine and traces can be in the body for very many weeks afterwards.

I have had a course of antibiotics which didn't touch it. I'm thinking steroids too, although I have osteoporosis, so need to be careful. I saw a GP yesterday who sent me for a chest X-ray. I really need to investigate supplements to boost my immune system, not helped by under active thyroid. The AF seems the least of my problems right now.

Try echinacea.

Hi Peddling

I am on Apixaban and have received written guidance that Paracetamol is fine but NOT Ibuprufen (as Finvola's post)

As Apixaban is a new drug I suggest any good folks using the medication and who experience problems should post on the forum.

Stay well
