Do any of you guys know if these can be taken together. My husband has just had 3 teeth removed & has been given these antibiotics to take but is worried. The dentist does know what meds he’s on. Before ringing the gp I just wondered if you guys know.

Many Thanks

I had those for an abscess recently, not nice but no problem with Apixaban. Follow instructions closely.

Can you explain “not nice” ? Husbands unwell & I don’t know if it’s the antibiotics. I don’t know what to expect.

They can wreck your stomach, v important to take with food! Plenty water and repeat No Booze. Anyone who has had an abscess and three teeth out will not feel well anyway but if he gets worse I should call 111 because teeth bugs can (rarely, don’t want to cause alarm) attack the heart, hence the antibiotics so be sure to finish the course. Hopefully he’ll feel better in about a week.

Thanks for replying. The GP has said that the antibiotics can be taken with abixaban . He’s still feeling unwell, which of course he didn’t mention to the doctor 🤦‍♀️ He’s having a lazy day, unlike him. I’ll see what he’s like tomorrow unless he gets worse. Yes I know about the dangers of gum infection. It’s hard to separate covid -infection - antibiotics-AF- or just the ordeal of yesterday.

Yes it's ok I had 3 teeth out last year and a bone graft and took both, they are not pleasant but work, please dont touch booze on them though as you can have a bad reaction

What do you mean not pleasant? Husband is in bed not feeling at all well. Could this be the antibiotics? Unsure of what to expect. He has a headache tired & shivery. He went back into AF yesterday before the antibiotics. So difficult he looks to me for the answers & I don’t know 🤷‍♀️

If you cannot get through to doctor call the local pharmacist they are very knowledgeable about meds

Metronidazole is an antibiotic which has lots of nasty side effects . Some will be listed in the patient leaflet but others ( not acknowledged by the manufacturers who are largely responsible for what gets listed in the patient leaflet) are reported by patients. There is a website called askapatient where drugs are reviewed by patients. Flagyl/ Metronidazole does not score highly! The last time I took it I asked to be switched to Augmentin . It made me feel really sick.

Tend to make you a bit under the weather, upset stomach etc but nothing major in my experience maybe speak to the GP there are alternatives I think

Always ask a pharmacist if you have any concern. Never a forum like this.

Pharmacists are not always reliable. I have read testimonies from lots of people who have been poisoned by Fluoroquinolones who were never warned by their doctor or their pharmacist about the possible side effects. Given that these drugs can cause irreversible damage to multiple body systems and in the USA have several black box warnings I would call this negligent. Also since immediate discontinuation is recommended at the slightest hint of tendonitis or neuropathy patients should be warned - not everybody reads the patient info leaflet.

This "chat " forum has a lot of members who are actually far more knowledgeable about the condition being discussed ie atrial fibrillation than your average GP. Many have years of experience coping with this condition and the various drugs that are used to treat it. Some of us have had first hand knowledge of the nasty side effects of not just the drugs that are used to treat afib but others as well. Most pharmacists would describe Metronidazole as safe and effective. For some people it is for others it's very nasty. I would always look up a drug online rather than ask my pharmacist .
