Husband scheduled for a knee replacement next month two weeks after his scheduled quarterly infusion. The surgeon suggested he hold off until after the surgery as it could affect his immune system. Of course we will ask our MO but was curious if others had ever been told this. And is the immune system affected when it’s processing this drug? Thanks.

Delay Lupron for surgery?

If anything, the immune system is improved by ADT.

Healing of cut tissues may be slower, however.
Hello, I had a knee replacement and my Urologist said not to change a thing, just take the Lupron as normal. I was fine. Good luck 👍
After a TKA muscle recovery is important so low testosterone may make this slower. But stopping lupron will not change anything, T won't recover in that time anyway.
I'm currently looking after my wife who had a TKA last Monday. After my difficult recovery from a fractured patella I expected the worst.
She is doing great! Our house has 4 floors and she is getting around really well, doing laundry and some cooking ("I do it wrong"). She says she has very little pain and stood on both legs 2 hours after surgery. She can walk without crutches but uses one for stability. Her physiotherapist told her to take it easy!
Physiotherapy and doing the exercises is important. Good luck with the surgery 🍀.
How much pre surgery PT muscle conditioning has he had?
We lift weights weekly. He’s in good shape for his age. Has handled doublet therapy for a year with minimal SEs. Had his first TKR 9 years ago.
Let me be more specific. Sorry I was vague in my question.
I should have asked what muscle work has he done to the muscles in the knee/leg area. This is done to assist recovery after surgery.
I was just curious and as a follow up did they mention post surgery rehab PT?
Yes we have three weeks of PT scheduled. This surgeon also sends you home with a programmed bicycle (Romtec) you use 5 times a day for three weeks.
That is great! Wishing a speedy recovery!
Post a picture of that bike. That would be interesting to see.
I had a knee replacement more than 8 years ago. Neither my MO nor my knee surgeon mentioned Lupron as an issue. I also had a hip replacement a year ago. My MO had me stop my Abiraterone for 5 days before the surgery but neither she nor my surgeon expressed any concerns about my Lupron. I recovered well from both surgeries
That's why it's called Lupr-ON and not Lupr-OFF.
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
